College Try: U.S. Soccer Takes First Steps to Reboot NCAA Game ⚽️https://t.co/xYWCfkaxnu via @sportico @DanielLibit— Scott Soshnick (@soshnick) June 10, 2025
1. This is sad. I hope a phoenix club can step up. 2. AIUI a big problem in Italy is that’s it’s insanely difficult to build new ground ds or even renovate existing ones. 3. “More fatal” reminds me of Billy Crystal saying “mostly dead” in The Princess Bride.
With the House settlement plus NIL money, the NCAA could become a much, much better method for development for late bloomers. I doubt it, because part of the path forward would be for the top soccer schools to play each other more, regardless of conference affiliation. However, those matches are cheap, plentiful content for the various conference affiliated outlets like the ACC Network, or ESPN’s deal with the SEC, so as I understand it there’s almost no chance that, for example, Maryland would become an ACC school for soccer. One factor here is that the two mega rich conferences (SEC and B1G) are pretty crappy at soccer. My point is, if over the next five years one or both make a commitment to soccer, boy howdy, we could really see a sea change. My daughter played high school soccer and they had 2 or 3 games every week and therefore only 1 or 2 practices a week. It’s kinda sorta like that with college soccer; the season is really short especially when you look at how many matches they play. There’s nowhere near enough practice time. A schedule that starts say September 15, takes a month off for Christmas break, and then goes another 10 weeks before the tournament would be a massive improvement.
The SEC doesn't even sponsor men's soccer. Only Kentucky and South Carolina have teams playing in Conference USA. It is strong in women's soccer. The Big Ten was the #2 conference in men's soccer last year, based on tournament bids.
Only two of the the Pac schools help in men's soccer, but yes, it had the #1 and #5 national seeds in the tourney. Not bad for a crappy conference.
I was trying to remember if USC had a program and how good it was. I knew the Zeros don't have men's soccer. UCLA and the Dawgs though, they help.
This had nothing to do with a new stadium and everything to do with the owner's pride. He could have easily funded the money owed but refused to in response to fan protests and online criticism. Cagliari and Leeds both dodged a bullet. The professional club is folding but that doesn't mean the Brescia Calcio is disappearing. Crystal Palace went bust in 2009/10 but retained its league status because the English authorities and as harsh on financial failure as Italian ones.
Frosinone then are safe to play in Serie B for 2025-26. Salernitana and Sampdoria meet over 2 legs with the loser being relegated to Serie C and the winner staying up. Also, if Brescia field a team for 2025-26, they will begin with a 4 point deduction, as the team were docked a total of 8 points for their financial irregularities.
Watching Birmingham Legion vs Sacramento Republic, and I suddenly wish Rubicon Brewing Co. hadn't gone out of business several years ago.
Nuno Espirito Satan just signed a new long- term contract at Forest so with a bit of luck he'll follow the English tradition of being fired within 3 months.
This was definitely my experience playing D3 college soccer. We had a lot of 3-game weeks, and we even had a 4-game week about every other year. Even though we practiced in between the games, it became a joke after the conference schedule started. From that point on, almost all the practice time was either recovery from the previous day's game or tactical prep for the next day's game. D1 isn't quite that bad because the season is a week or two longer with a similar number of games, but it still doesn't allow much time for training during the season. Even extending the college soccer season by a month, with no increase in the number of games, would improve the quality immensely.
Well, Serie B's relegation series was determined Sunday, as only the Italians could do it? https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/c625wxp7d74o
The bar saved England in added time in the second half and added time in the second half of extra time.
Honduras does it again...third win in a row in the Gold Cup after getting blasted by Canada in their opening match. They beat Panama 5-4 in PK's after the match ended 1-1.
If Sheffield Wednesday don't play their players' salaries by tomorrow bad things may happen. 35 years ago Wednesday were probably a top 8 team. Well maybe 34 years ago. 35 years ago they won the League Cup while spending a year in the Second Division. The year after they finished third in the First Division with the 4th highest average attendance.
You should have watched women's eurobasket like DAZN told you. Belgium wins on a miracle! 🥳Congratulations! pic.twitter.com/gL2OpAWdCs— C (@C038254) June 29, 2025
