You mean league position? The same question would apply to Tottenham. Frankfurt qualified after finishing eleventh in BL.
Considering that Tottenham are one place behind Manchester United, the answer, without doing and research would be "No." Wigan was in the Europa League after winning the FA Cup and then being relegated in 2013, as mentioned.
Fair enough! I tend to agree, but neither should win. Both finalists have been zog awful this season.
The question was "Would Manchester United be the team with the worst record to ever make the Champions League?". Only one out of Tottenham and Manchester United only one will qualify for the Champions League. And they'll probably be the team with the worst league record to qualify for the UCL. Since when have the Europa League winners qualified for the UCL? I think Frankfurt finished 9th in the Bundesliga the year they won it. That's irrelevant to the Champions League.
Yes, I know. I was explaining the previous comment about Wigan, by confirming it the was Europa League and NOT Champions League that they qualified for when they were relegated. Sorry if my post was too subtle for you by, specifically, pointing it was not Champions League.
This should shut VAR haters up for a while. Leyton Orient v Stockport County in the EFL League One playoffs. No VAR so the goal stood. Miles offside ffs pic.twitter.com/prpeq0r7r3— Arctic Isolation (@isolationarctic) May 10, 2025
Things evened out when Leyton Orient were denied a penalty. It ended 2-2. So far none of the home teams in the EFL playoffs have won, which doesn't bode well for Notts County v Wimbledon tonight, especially when I've gone 0 for 6 watching Notts County live this season. In fact I haven't seen Notts County win in person since we beat Doncaster 5-2 in 2010, after the then Doncaster chairman had appointed himself coach and played his 16 year-old son in goal. Mickey Mouse league.
Your manager takes you from the brink. If relegation to at least a Europa League place and you publicly humiliate him. LOL!
Sampdoria relegated to Serie C in the worst thing ever to happen to something named after Andrea Doria.
Stockport County finished two places away from a playoff place for a Premier League spot in 1997-98. By 2013-14 they were in the 6th tier, where they remained for 6 seasons. By the end of the month they could be back in the second tier. Their owner writing off $10 million in debt has helped by that shouldn't take the shine off their resurgence.
2014-15. Since then, the Europa League winners have finished in these spots in their domestic leagues: 2014-15: Sevilla, 5th 2015-16: Sevilla, 7th 2016-17: Manchester United, 6th 2017-18: Atletico Madrid, 2nd 2018-19: Chelsea, 3rd 2019-20: Sevilla, 4th 2020-21: Villarreal, 7th 2021-22: Frankfurt, 11th 2022-23: Sevilla, 12th 2023-24: Atalanta, 4th 2024-25: Tottenham/United, guaranteed worse than 12th So by league position, to answer the original question, yes, whoever wins will be the worst team to ever qualify for the Champions League.
Now that Saputo's Bologna have won their first major trophy since 1974, maybe he'll start to paying more attention to his first child.
Have you seen Manchester United and Tottenham play this season? [really, you are, of course, correct]
