Great race and how can you not love Nuguse when you learn that he has a pet turtle named after his favorite amino acid?

Sad postscript in the wrestling as the Indian who pulled off the big upset qualified for the final, then missed weight this morning, and gets relegated to last place. Good news for CONCACAF though, as the Cuban who lost in the semi takes her place in the final.

Sacré Bleu! Germany beats France in overtime in handball after France was up by two goals with 15 seconds left in regulation.

That game was insane. France hit the post as time expired in OT too!

Well played Germany, but what a blunder by Dika Mem ! He just had to keep the ball for a couple of seconds, or even to throw him into the stands...

It's a sad way to retire for Nikola Karabatic, arguably the greatest handball player ever (even if some Croatians or Swedish may disagree)

Doesn't seem that long ago that US track and field fans were bemoaning their poor performance in track in major championships and hitting out at the fed, the college system, coaching techniques, video games, other sports and the decline of American civilization. They couldn't win anything that didn't have 400 in the title. One sporting generation later....

At this point, NCAA runs the Olympics in so many different events for so many countries. It really has been an impressive Games for the NCAA.

I knew an American would make the podium for the men's 1500m and that Ingebritsen would not win, but I was actually hoping it would Nuguse although I'm fine with some guy with a better kick who trains in Blacksburg winning Gold.

Preston North End fired their manager after one game. Technically he left "by mutual consent".

Oh my God, it's not exactly like England. No wonder Chicago Fire haven't won the World Cup.

So despite their supposed dream to support soccer and the ability for any team to climb, they actually want to make it harder to advance because its not good enough to be able to support it as a business, you can only move up if you win on the field too.

You have to be last place in order to promote. We are the United States of America! We like to do things differently!

We could get into the whole pro-rel debate but as HTC Sevens pointed out, of the teams that got promoted from the Championship without receiving the benefit of parachute payments, Nottingham Forest and Leeds United broke EFL FFP rules and would have had points deducted had they not gone up, Sheffield United lost $25M in their promotion season and would probably have gone into administration, Luton lost $25M, spending 150% of revenue on wages alone and even a well run club like Brentford lost over $10 million and would have lost a lot more had it hadn't been for the timely sale of Ollie Watkins. Ipswich Town lost $23M getting out of League One last season.

How does having to push yourself to the edge of the financial abyss to get promoted make any sporting sense?
