Just like last year, I don't feel good about these teenage debuts in the NWSL. Gotham just brought in a girl who turned 14 yesterday.
I know most of these people have probably traveled to Chester and aren’t local folk…but this makes me hopeful that one day an NWSL team can thrive in Philadelphia One day… https://t.co/hprjTethdq— Jimmy King (@Jimmyking35) July 28, 2024
I have been conflicted with the growth in women's sports in general. It has been great, but it feels like they will take the PR over doing what is probably better long term. Signing a kid cross country in a league that has been pretty poor in terms of having a support system for anything, seems like a setup for disaster.
PHENOMENAL FREE KICK from a footballer YOUNGER THAN THE IPHONE. 🤯Franco Mastantuono, 16, scores first league goal in sensational, game-winning fashion. River Plate gem has the biggest release clause in Argentinian football history at $49M. We get it. 🌟pic.twitter.com/7z0TezKPKH— Men in Blazers (@MenInBlazers) July 29, 2024
If only more American players could play in Brazil's Serie A: Thiago Almada with a beauty to put Argentina up 1-0 over Ukraine! Golazo❗️ #Paris2024 pic.twitter.com/zAxmhgTrNj— Stu Holden (@stuholden) July 30, 2024
St. Lucia and Dominica get their first Olympic medals and they're both gold. Hope to see BVI bring home another first medal for CONCACAF in the 400m hurdles this week.
Someone asked why they don't have bench clearing brawls in the fencing. NB: the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise has grossed over $4.5 billion worldwide.
The Olympic golf finale is insane. The Spaniard Rahm blew a 4 strike lead in 2 holes and the French guy has come out of nowhere with 5 or 6 birdies in a row. Americans Schaeffle and Schaffler, however you spell them, are right in the mix. McIlroy's charge may be over as he lands in the water.
Narrow knockout stage qualification of the day comes from the Belgian women's basketball team, who needed to beat Japan by at least 27 points, or win by 26 points and score more than 85 points. They won 85-58.
Been watching a bunch of the kayakcross this weekend. This sport is insane. Lets put 4 kayaks in the area for 1, race them around slalom gates, and they all have paddles they can use to do everything short of bashing each other in the head.
Will the gymnastics actually conclude before the L.A. games start? They seem to have been going on longer than MLS playoffs.
France are denied a penalty which could have won them the semi final 6 minutes into added time after the longest VAR review by the Honduran referee.
The end of the Germany v Argentina field hockey game made me miss the beginning of the Rapids leagues cup game. Argentina won in a shootout
Maybe the biggest upset in the whole Olympics: https://indianexpress.com/article/s...kes-down-unbeatable-giant-yui-susaki-9498275/
GOALKEEPER GOAL in UEFA Conference League qualifying! 🤯Ognjen Cancarevic of FC Noah scores from inside his own box, so the Football Federation of Armenia naturally adds a dance track. 🇦🇲pic.twitter.com/WmU4S8urxE— Men in Blazers (@MenInBlazers) August 6, 2024
The men's 1500m was a shock in Europe where the rivalry between Kerr and Ingebritsen had been built up like Ali vs. Frazier. Track and field is a big sport here. Nobody figured that there may be an American, with a killer kick, who'd peaked specifically for this race, and that Ingebritsen would be so busy watching Kerr on the big screen that he'd drift out of lane one and allow a free run on his inside. I think Ingebritsen was happier that Kerr hadn't got the gold than he was upset about not medaling himself. British bookmakers had the winner listed at 37/1. A poster called Big Red on Lertsrun.com predicted the outcome exactly.
