I was at Target yesterday, and noticed that the FIFA 09 games are currently on sale. For those of you who have put off buying the game, now would be the time to get it. The XBOX 360 version is $39.99 (orig. $59.99) and the PS3 version is $29.99 (orig. $59.99). Just thought I would throw that out there for those interested.
    Cheers.

The free online update includes all transactions in MLS through Feb 3rd. It even has all of the drafted players on the squads. Viveros, Escalada and Jorginho Paulista are reserves on RSL.

You have to download the newest Adidas Live Season update.

Does anyone here play World Wide Soccer Manager? Or also known as Football Manager in Europe?

This game is light years better than Football manager, it has more leagues, and realistic results. Great game for anyone interested.

They are even working out how to implement all of the stupid and confusing MLS rules. I see funny comments about them from Europeans all the time on there forums.

Except Adidas Live Season update doesn't have MLS updates. I tried to download the latest player update to play online, and there were no changes to the RSL roster.

It's an automatic update. Sign in to the Playstation Network (or XBox Live), insert the game disc, and it will automatically do it. Of the RSL roster updates, Futhi Bhembe made the cut. However, he doesn't have the dreadlocks. Viveros, Escalada, Jourginho, etc. are on the team. And, Mathis is no longer chubby and bald. He's actually quite fast for an MLS player on the game.

I swear I did that, it downloaded a player update, and then I played a match with RSL and there were no changes. I will have to try again. Do you have to play manager mode to get the updated roster? or do exhibition matches work too?

It should work for all game modes. I've been playing the MLS Cup tournament mode. Before entering the match, you have to go to team management, and then update your squad. The trialists appear under "reserves", so if you want to use them you have to move them into your substitutes options.

Cool, I will have to give it another shot. I won the World Cup with the US over the weekend! Beat Italy in the final!

Sadly, that's just about the only place you'll ever see that happen...in a video game.

I still play 08. Is 09 that much better?

It depends on how technical of a player you are. The step over moves and tricks are more responsive (IMO). The keepers are also more "intelligent" (as EA puts it), and make more saves. However, IMO it plays different than 08. My players get knocked off of the ball easier, and for some reason they fall over more when bumped by another player. Maybe that is due to the transition from XBOX to PS3 I made, and I'm not used to the controls and such of the PS3. Overall, I think it's worth the $30, if only for the humor effect. I can't keep myself from yelling at the ref sometimes, and my wife finds it hilarious. "Sir, that wasn't a foul!" :D

All I can say is that if Escalada, Cox, and Jourginho are as good in real life as they are on FIFA 09, then RSL is in for a VERY exciting season. I burned someone 5-1 online who was playing as Barca, with the hat-trick by "El Toro." :)

ok so are you guys on the PS3? I went in last night, went to start an online game and downloaded the update. Canceled out of the online game and went in to play a single game, no changes to the RSL roster. None of the new guys are there, and still have the old ones. I even went in and deleted the roster file, went in to download it again, and still no changes! what am I doing wrong here? Do you have to play the online game first before the changes get saved. I tell it to save the file, but it doesn't seem to have any updates for RSL. Do you have to pay to subscribe to the addidas live season? cause I don't do that, just the free squad update.

Try this. Perform the PS3 FIFA 09 update. Go to an exhibition match. Select RSL and whatever other team you want the computer to be. Select your jersey. Now, the next screen should show the stadium, and have options like "Team Management", "Start Match", etc. Select "Team Management", and then select "Squads". Jean Alexandre should be shown as a substitute, and under the reserve section should be the trialist players (Futhi, Viveros, etc.). Move the trialists you want available for the match into the roster (substitute or starter), and then proceed to play the match. If that doesn't work, I don't know what you're doing wrong.

Do you have to play the online match for squads to be saved? I have done exactly what you said there before... No new players.

No. I haven't played any online matches yet. I bought the game last week, put the disc in, downloaded the update, and the new players appeared. I'm not sure what else to say. You are playing FIFA 09, right?

yes to both. I go online and it downloads a squad update. But there are not any changes to the RSL one that I download. Is that how your downloading your update, is by going to play an online game and having it update the squads? Or do you do it another way?
