Anyone else following this yet? Of course I'm picking the Czechs to finally win this competition. I am also picking Jan Koller to win the Golden Boot. I want to call my shot and say he scores 8 goals.

    So, call your shot here.

I will respectfully disagree. The Czechs are looking rather old lately and i just don't think they have the fire power to win it. I think Croatia is one of the best teams in the world right now and will be very dangerous.

However my pick in your game is France. Karim Benzema wins the GB. I'll say 9.

Realistically, I am saying the Czechs more out of loyalty to the land of my forefathers than anything else.

Italy over Portugal is my pick.

Italians are a force and this is the last hurrah for the old guard.

Whew! I was afraid you'd go off on our new bandwagon guy, who couldn't yet know you more Czech than many Czechs! ;)

I always like the Euro's timing, with games starting at 11:30 here and a perfect long lunch for a bunch of folks. Terrific stuff.

Germans crush the field in a warm up to another World Cup in South Africa. Klose gets the golden boot with 9 goals.;)

    BOO!!!

I've got to agree with Dunlap FC, but Portugal might actually pull through one of these days in international competition. They have been touted as one of the best for the last decade or two, but can't get their act together. They're a bunch of primadona's. I hate Portugal. Anyone seen Family Guy?...

You need to let it run for a minute or two.

I'd love to pick Italy, but I think the squad is a bit fickle since Donadoni took over. High highs and low lows.

Ah, what the hell. I'll say Italy - with big things from my boy Daniele De Rossi.

I am going to go with Portugal... Ronaldo has been on a tear, and I think they will pull it out this time.

Portugal may get past the group stage, but they certainly aren't going to win the group. Group A goes to the Czechs.

After crushing Croatia, I would like to pick the Netherlands, who are always one of my favorite National sides to follow. However, with their group, it will be a very difficult task. I'm going to stick with them and predict an Oranje victory.

I just read (this isn't recent news, I just didn't know) that ESPN/ABC are covering every game. That is awesome. Now, I just wish that I had decided to pay for cable at the new house.

It's not too late. Basic cable has ESPN and it's not terribly expensive.

Yeah, I do have a few months to convince my wife that we really, really need to watch the Euro. She might just come around. Don't anyone tell her that there will be games (two, I think) on ABC.

I'm sure I will regret this, but I just got a little feeling about Spain. This might be the once a century tournament where they don't phone it in. Torres to win the GB with 7.

I'll second that, I have followed the Oranje since 96 and personally believe they're the best european team.
    Ruud gets GB.:)

I wish Ruud got it. I've followed them since I was 13 during the 1994 World Cup. Holland was absolutely amazing, and I think they were unlucky in not winning.

I remember watching a game where one of the DeBoer's put a ball from 3/4 the field away from the opposing team's goal right onto a running Bergkamp's foot inside the 18 that Bergakamp one-timed into the top corner of the net. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever since (excluding my wife, of course). I've been fan ever since.

However, Kluivert let me, and I think everyone else, down. I have lost much of my enthusiasm for Holland, except for its fantastic Grolsch beer and Grolsch beer bottles.

That wasn't just any game, or any goal.
That was arguably the greatest goal ever scored. It was Frank DeBoer to Dennis Bergkamp against Argentina in the 98 World Cup.
If I could access YouTube at work, I'd post a link for all to enjoy. You really need to hear the Dutch commentator calling that sequence. He goes freaking nuts, and it's hilarious.

    Negative. German.

    Here you go

There are other, better quality videos of the goal, but most have music over the dutch guy, and you can't hear the crazy.
