One of these days there will be more than one Philadelphia-based thread... until then I have to post the various soccer news stuff I come up with on here, so please pardon me once again. ------------------------------------------ Come watch the US National Team take on Venezuela live this Saturday at Tir Na Nog at 16th & Arch Streets in Center City! This is a newish restaurant trying to establish themselves on the local soccer bar scene and they have expressed a willingness to put the game on for us if we come as a group. I don't think they are expecting a huge crowd so hopefully we can surprise them but not overburden them, but in any case this is a great way to show that Philadelphia supports US Soccer at a time when our visible support is key to bringing MLS and the National Teams to town. Details: US Men's National Team vs. Venezuela 3:45-6:00pm Tir Na Nog 1600 Arch Street Philadelphia, PA www.tirnanogphilly.com for more details The game will be broadcast on ESPN2 starting at 3:55 pm; kickoff is at 4:00 pm. ---------------------------------------- Also, as many of you have probably heard by now there is a PUMA Athletics store opening at 1505 Walnut Street in Center City on Friday, March 28. PUMA is the official supplier of the 2003 MLS match ball as well as the Chicago Fire's jerseys. PUMA also supplies other clubs and National Teams around the world including Everton and the Italian and Cameroonian national teams. Hopefully we can get this store to carry soccer stuff. If they don't at first, there is no harm in asking because if they see the demand then they will likely carry balls, jerseys, etc.
I wouldn't go to the Puma store for at least 2 or 3 more weeks. Walked by and there's still major construction going on... Sign said OPENING SPRING 2003... if they can get this store done in a day, it'll be a miracle.
Point taken. Although the Philadelphia Busines Journal said a ways back that it was to be tomorrow. We shall see, as I am headed over that way tomorrow after class.
