I thought Heather O'Reilly was VERY impressive in the final Gold Cup game, (a goal and an assist). But should this high school senior be chosen over Abby Wambach to start the qualifying games for the World Cup?

I can't believe Wambach didn't get the call. The 2002 WUSA rookie of the year... and she's not representing us at the gold cup. It's stupidity. O'reilly is fine and one day she'll have her time, but that time is not now. I wasn't impressed with Huckles (not sure of spelling) either. We've seen better talent in the WUSA than April is putting together to represent the USA. But what do ya do? April tends to play favorites. She doesn't look at talent as a first priority. If she did, Roberts, Fair, Huckles and O'reilly wouldn't be part of this group. I'm not sure I'd pick Siri over Beene as well.

I agree with almost everything that you said, Kim.
Except there's no way Beene should be picked instead of Siri.

And O'Reilly was impressive...that kid has got skills. Sure, the first few games may be a baptism by fire, but once she gets rid of those initial jitters she will be a force to be reckoned with.

And let's not forget how old Mia was when she was first called up to the WNT.

Wambach is still better than o'reilly...really no high school player should be playing on the senior squad...and please dont mention mia, womens soccer was less delevoped back then and therefore it was able to be done. From what ive seen of o'reilly in the nike cup she was good but NOTHING to be starting on the NT over...this was a travesty...ape may get away with high schoolers against trinadad but if she has this lineup in china...shes in for it big...and for the record i see o'reilly as a good player but not the next mia...the next mia is aly wagner.

at least she finally brought up benson.

Benson, another one better than sliced bread.

I don't think I've ever agreed with a Charge fan until you said this g4m:

"Wambach is still better than o'reilly...really no high school player should be playing on the senior squad...and please dont mention mia, womens soccer was less delevoped back then and therefore it was able to be done."

    EXACTLY!

Ape is an idiot. And I want a new "Everything is Ape's fault" thread!!!!

if you followed the charge board...youd notice that many want fair off the NT.so dont say we are *total* homers

as for ape...she is just a USSF shill there to promote UNC players, oreilly wouldnt be on the team if she was verbally committed to goto lets say santa clara IMNSHO.

Ape should be replaced by someone who knows talent...but then again most of your 99ers wouldnt be on there...anyone else wanna see NT coach.....

Sawyers...HA i knew you all thought i was gonna say kirkorian ;) but really i think ape wouldnt last in the WUSA...thats saying alot because the WUSA coaches dont get much love from the college ranks, where the real good coaches lie.

if she keeps this up...i see the USWNT having problems in the quarterfinals in china (depending on the draw of course)

no way in hell are the US winning the WWC...they should have realized that the 99 team was the peak of a squad that was built in 94-95 and should have torn down and rebuilt, not stayed stagnant...especally the d-line, i think only slaton is worthy of starting fawcett as a player coach off the bench to clamp down and be a man marking monster.

    I say NO on Sawyers.

But everything else gets the thumbs up. Damn g4m, you're on a roll today!!

    :D

I like this statement the best:

"as for ape...she is just a USSF shill there to promote UNC players, oreilly wouldnt be on the team if she was verbally committed to goto lets say santa clara IMNSHO."

There is NO WAY I would pick Beene over Siri but I read that Siri sprained either her finger or hand in a recent practice and I think she's sitting this one out.

Actually...Id say Aly is the next Akers. O'Reilly has the potential to be the next Tiffeny Milbrett.

Very true and I dont disagree with you one bit. But she resembles Millie very much. Quick, very skilled, not afraid to take defenderS on one after another, and then have a nice goal. As she matures as a player into National Team material, you will all see it come. The only question is....how long will it take?

O'Reilly is a gonner and Abby's exactly where she should be.

    :D

ps. i hope o'reilly starts to get better soon, if she really is injured and it's not just ape covering up a stupid decision to leave abby at home in the first place.

Abby must've pissed in Ape's Wheaties at one time or another to be second fiddle to a high school kid!

But I definitely agree with BrandiC63 that O'Reilly's got tremendous potential, although it's a bit soon to compare her to the WNT elite just yet... she still needs to earn her stripes. She is, undoubtedly, the future of the WNT and it'll be exciting to watch her mature as a player.

    Well first it was
    O'Reilly in, Wambach out...

    Then it was
    Wambach in, O'Reilly out...

    Now, its
O'Reilly back in, Wambach back out...

Where did you get this information? Because I don't think they can technically do this under FIFRA rules.
