Here's my new starting line-up I want opinons
    -----------------Van der Sar-----------------
    --FDB-----------Stam---Cocu--
    ---------Van Bommel-----Davids--------------
    --Overmars------------------------Van Persie--
    ----------------Van der Vaart----------------
    -------Van Nistelrooy-------Kluivert-------------
I think this would be a great lineup but in reality in wont happen but aia hope it does here's a another line-up
    Van der sar

    Melchiot Stam FDB Hofland

    Overmars Davids Cocu Van DerVaart

    Kluivert
    Van Nistelrooy

I think this could be a real effective lineup PK has become more of a forward than a striker so he should play behind RVN.

    -----------------Waterreus--------------------
    Reiziger------Stam-------Hofland------------GvB
    -----------vBommel------------Davids---------
    Overmars-------------------------------vdVaart
    --------------------------Kluivert-------------
    --------------Makaay-------------------------

the right back position could probably be rotated with Ricksen and hell even Melchiot would do i guess (but definitely as the last choice).
the other thing that bothers me is playing GvB in the back rather than the midfield, but that is the best place for him i guess with vdVaart in the mid (and it keeps zenden out of there).

I like all of your lineups I really think Cocu should play the fullback position and VdV should start. As for the strikers theres a dilemma pk,rvn and makaay don't play well together and I'm especially dissapointed in rvn he's been virtually invisble during the games he's played but I think playing pk or vdv behind rvn will help him perform better for holland.Oh yeah one more thing why Zenden always picked for the first team? and why is he so bad now ? he was awesome during euro00.

    Whichever line up you choose..

do not, and I repeat, do not put Melchiot in there not even as a ball-boy. He's still chasing McAteer all over Lansdowne Road. Not too high on Stam either (slow, makes too many mistakes) but I understand Oranje ain't got no better. Hofland is promising but is as brittle as potato chips. Would really like to see both VDM and VDV in the starting XI as some of the old farts have to go. Dutch are always great but lack heart and that's been their downfall. Maybe it'll be different starting in 2004.

im tired of people saying they dont have heart - maybe they dont have the luck - so it is with football... if they have no heart, then why do they play the most beautiful football in the world, excepting brazil?

I think the problem with Holland is that they lack a killer instinct and at times instead of trying to win a game and grind it out say like a Geramny or England. They rather play beautiful soccer and playing like that has cost them games. I also think they have been really unlucky. So I agree with BlueDaddy its not because they lack heart.

No such thing as luck. You create your own and if you fail at making luck yours than it's b/c you didn't try hard enough.

    No, It's not BS

a different way of looking at things if you will. I happen to agree with elainem on this one. I've seen enough Oranje matches and I'm just not buying this "luck" excuse. I'm an Oranje fan thru and thru but what happened at Landdowne road was inexcusable. I saw a team in a fatal need of a win waste 20 minutes of the first half simply because Numan had to come off. I saw Kluivert not finishing his chances and a glaring defensive mistake that lead to MacAteer goal. I also remember seeing a collapse in Lisbon earlier and a non-chalant performance at home against Ireland that cost Oranje dearly. Would you lump it all into your "luck" theory? I'd rather not. If anything I'd buy a vowel and make it into a "lack" - a lack of desire/skill/heart (choose one) which prevented a team in a dire need of a win to come up short despite being given every opportunity to redeem itself, again and again and again.

And I also remember the 1988 squad that did not need to resort to "luck" to pull thru against Ireland. Some may want to label that non-call offside as "luck" but I prefer perseverance.
