Does anyone know how many jobs opened last year (2003-2004)...is this a high number for 04-05, or par for an average year????
Northeastern University who will be joining the Colonial Conference in 05 will be looking for coach to replace Ed Matz who has stepped down to just coach the women's team.
Quinnipiac picks a coach... Eric Da Costa Named Head Men's Soccer Coach; Former Bobcats standout and assistant becomes Quinnipiac's new head coach June 29, 2005 Former Quinnipiac University men's soccer standout and assistant coach Eric Da Costa has been named head men's soccer coach at his alma mater. The announcement was made by Director of Athletics and Recreation Jack McDonald. Da Costa, who will replace Sam Carrington, served most recently as head men's soccer coach at Post University in Waterbury, Conn. Da Costa was formerly a graduate assistant coach with the Bobcats' men's and women's soccer programs. "Our Student-Athletes and staff are all thrilled to have Eric Da Costa return to Quinnipiac as our next head coach. Eric experience at Quinnipiac as a stand-out player, assistant coach for both our men's and women's programs, combined with his recent success as a head coach make him a perfect fit for the university. We are all looking forward to Eric's return to Quinnipiac," said McDonald. A native of New Bedford, Mass., Da Costa was a four-year starter for Quinnipiac and served as team captain in his senior season. A defender, he helped Quinnipiac turn out several impressive seasons, including an excellent 2000 campaign in which the Bobcats beat the nationally ranked No. 12 UMBC and reached the Northeast Conference tournament for the first time in program history. Da Costa graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management (2001) and a Masters Degree in Management (2003). De Costa played soccer professionally for two seasons beginning his career with the Connecticut Wolves in 2002. He then enjoyed a brief training stint with the 2002 Major League Soccer semifinalist New England Revolution as well as a year with the Western Mass. Pioneers. He has also enjoyed two seasons in the Professional Indoor Soccer Leagues with both the Massachusetts Twisters (2002), and the Connecticut Academica F.C. (2003). Previously, Da Costa was the head boys' soccer coach at New Milford (Conn.) High in 2002. While at New Milford he produced three All-League players, one All-State player and guided his team to a state tournament appearance. In 2003, he served as Assistant Coach for the New England Mutiny of the Women's Premier Soccer League. That club finished 7-1 season and won the Eastern Conference
That's a nice little achievement for Da Costa, I mean Quinnipiac...whatever. Its an inside joke. Congrats Eric and good luck.
Did the Northwestern Coach get the Colgate job ? I haven't seen any releases to date. Who else was being considered ? I guess being a Colgate alum must have its influences.
Who else was in on that job.....I would think that Mike Noonan was pursued...I went ontot he sight and it says the AD is from Brown...maybe paul marco also, since he is nearby and has done a decent job at Binghamton...maybe a few Ivy guys also...like Bob Butehorn, who used to coach up there at St Bonnies. Good to see an alumn get the job
Why would you think Noonan or Marco would be pursued? Plus, why in the world would they ever take Colgate??? Makes no sense for them. Brown has a nice facility and Binghamton is getting one. Plus, who is going to go to Colgate to play soccer? At least at Northwestern you have the draw of playing in the Big Ten. Congrats to Ronning but I don't see any way Noonan or Marco are taking that job. At least at Brown and Binghamton you have something like a facility to fall back on.
Never said that Noonan would go...just that the guy probably asked him to look at it....good point there..but as far as marco goes, I think that some people would love teh chance to work at a top academic school like Colgate rather than a state school like Binghamton...if you think that grown men with families base their career decsions solely on facilties, you need your head examined. I still think if this guy works hard he can do OK...its not the toughest league in teh world to win...though American is a class operation form what I read.......Top 3/4 in teh league is not unrelaisitic.
