Can anyone confirm that Rich Posipako will be going back to take the Longwood. They sure need him in a big way. This could be a big step backwards and since he has built a successful program from the ground up at Winthrop and turned it into a good coaching job and program. I was told his house is on the market. This sounds like it may be like the move from Dayton to Xavier. What are these guys thinking.
That would be great for Longwood, he was one of the most successful coaches in the nation when he was there about 10 years ago. However, I don't think the "Gaffer" is going anywhere. Like you said, he has built a good program and it is a very good coching position at this point. They have also just built new upgrandes to the soccer facility. Did you ever think he may be moving to another house in the area?
Could be that some of the programs were simply tired of being doormats, as was the case for Xavier, and were willing to commit the resources necessary to improve the program all around.
That will happen next year, along with Georgia State from the Atlantic Sun. GSU will be competitive, but should finish in the middle of the pack.
Take UIC off the list. They've hired John Trask. http://uicflames.collegesports.com/sports/m-soccer/spec-rel/011705aaf.html

Dayton named their new coach: former D2 Incarnate Word Coach Dennis Currier. Now it's 2 left. 1. Elon University - UNC-Greensboro Assistant Darren Powell 2. Longwood University 3. Interesting pick by Dayton, but its nice to see Dayton give a chance to a lower division coach who does not already have extensive ties to the school. He seems to have international scouting connections more than a domestic pipeline from anywhere. I wonder if he'll bring Lubomir Bogdanov with him?
He might try. Don't know if Bogdanov will pass the D1 sniff test as a prior professional (which is allowed in D2). Looks like he's played with the Bulgarian National Team prior to attending Incarnate Word. I might be hard pressed to believe that he was only an 18 year old amateur at the time.
Getting an early jump on next year's thread, Al Mistri announces that year 25 will be his last at Fullerton. http://www.titansports.org/msoccer/2004/headlines/mistritoretire.htm I would guess that Bob Ammann, Mike's brother, is the leading candidate to take over, although that was not specified in the retirement announcement. Fullerton seems to have flat-lined over the last few years, but it certainly has the recruiting base to return to past glory.
It will be interesting to see if Fullerton can make a run at the Big West title a la Indiana in Yeagley's last season. The timing is a little odd though. Recruits are starting to sign and why would you sign with a program where the coach is not know for your second through fourth seasons. I think Fullerton should announce who will be the next coach, if it will be Amman, so the program can continue to recruit.
Oh yeah....Bobby Amman is such a driven guy who really works his #$% off to make CSFU the best program it can be....come on, there are a lot more deserving and more capable young coaches who could help CSFU achieve (to start) and maybe even overachieve once in a while.....though you are right, in teh world of college soccer, they probably will give it to him
Darren will have a hard time recruiting this year unless he convinces the school to retain the current assistant coach. Elon is a much harder sell than UNCG, specifically due to academics.
I agree with you about the academic difference with Elon (I am pretty sure UNCG has no standards ). But I am not sure about the assistant coach statement. I know Darren has a very good recruiting reach and has done his fair share of landing top notch players. Parker is not the recruiter!
Bingo. There will be no title run with the current regime. More than likely they'll battle with UCI and CPSLO to stay out of last place.
Where did you get this information? This has been one of the most interesting positions, just because of the lack of info coming out of the Longwood Athletic office.
And then there was one. 1. Elon University - UNC-Greensboro Assistant Darren Powell 2. Longwood University 3. Loyola University-Chicago - Brendan Eitz, Former Loyola Women's Coach 4. Just when you thought you were done, they pull you back in. ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - St. Bonaventure will conduct a national search for a new men's soccer coach following the resignation of Bill Brady to accept a similar position at Greensboro (N.C.) College, Director of Athletics Dr. Ron Zwierlein announced today. I realize that St. Bonaventure doesn't devote much attention to the soccer program, but it still must sting a little to lose your coach to a D3 school. Maybe he was tired of coaching a team the color of poop. http://gobonnies.collegesports.com/sports/m-soccer/spec-rel/022805aaa.html Greg Noblet named interim coach.
Interesting move. Greensboro has made the DIII playoffs a bunch recently. I wonder if there were other reasons. Olean is a difficult place to convince players to come to. If you are looking for a Catholic University, there are a bunch in the A-10 in cities with things to do. Olean is the big city.
