Well, there is a frat group from GW who are SEs (don't know which one, and as you didn't know they obviously haven't been a problem). A lot of college kids are not quite 21 so while they might be able to drink on campus we heavily card at the SE beer tent. K
Classy... What about frats on the Big Soccer Forum? J/K But seriously it is unfortunate that you have to pay...
LA must come fairly close. Two schools in the city limits have close to 40K each(UCLA and Cal State Northridge) and Cal State LA and USC have 15K+. move out to the "metro area" and you cal state long beack 38K, cal state fullerton 37K, UC irvine 22k and uc riverside with 20k. that doesn't include smaller college like occidental, loyola, etc.
Irvine and Riverside are (comparatively) a longer way away; but you're right that there's a ton in the LA area. Wikipedia lists 63 colleges and universities in LA County; some of those are schools like DeVry and ITT Tech, which aren't really what I was thinking of, but there's no denying that the overall number is huge.
Actually we announced it two weeks ago on dcunited.com, weintrophies.com, Twitter and Facebook. Just sayin' ...
Actually, maybe this is a good time to mention that I think it would be a good idea to put an all-inclusive DC United calendar on dcunited.com. Perhaps a daily or weekly box on the front page, with a click to the full month or 2-3 month calendar, that includes matches, player appearances, happy hours, United for DC events, online chats, and anything else at all related to the club. A nice one glance/click method for people to connect with the club's various activities quickly, rather than digging through press releases and menus, which they aren't going to do unless they look for something specific.
Cool. I also agree that it's a fantastic idea. Wish I could be at the happy hour right now; I'm busy working late so that I can get to RFK early tomorrow.
this is bigsoccer, that's likely to be derided as far too late ("last week would have been better") and the scope too narrow--instead of all "an all encompassing dcu calendar, we'd instead want a "all inclusive world-wide soccer and personalized my life calendar" (you might want to call in the guys that built the scarf machine for that one). and of course as soon as its built someone will start a thread "Fire DCU Digital Media Now" full of posts that read "********, they can build a ********in super calendar in a week and we still don't have a ********in stadium?"
They're marketing the USOC to colleges fairly well. When I called about a small group of tix I responded with my .edu address and it got jumped on pretty good. I put them in touch with our campus activities office as well as getting my tix for a group that's mostly faculty. We had a 'Neighborhood Expo' on Monday and they had a table with a drawing, ticket sales info, and one of the newer MLS Cup trophies there to ooh and ahh over. Considering that Gallaudet's probably the smallest of the colleges in town, I'd think they'd be hitting up the others too.
