The two stadia are almost exactly the same drive time from downtown LA. The Rose Bowl is four miles closer, but is farther from freeways.
'knock-knock' 'who's there?' 'the 2008 open cup champions' 'the 2008 open cup champions who?' 'exactly' who gives a ********? there are bigger things happening here and some of you act like this matters.
Well, maybe you should stay out if a forum dedicated to talking about MLS, US soccer, and a thread on the Open Cup. Begone, troll!
As much as I have enjoyed the US Open Cup over the years (well, at least when the Fire didn't suck at all things, including the US Open Cup), this temporary change in format 1) makes sense and 2) is so far down the ladder of things in terms of importance, it really does not matter. The fact that they are trying to do something, especially in light of the hope, but not certainty, of a more open seems like a prudent decision.
NISA has announced that their Open Cup entrants will be Detroit City FC (Fall Tournament winner) and LA Force (best group stage record).
They still haven't said how the MLS teams will be selected but I looked at the schedule in case they go with the first 3 games. 3 home games: NSH 2 home games: HOU, SJE, SEA, MIN, ORL, LAX, FCD, NYR, NER, PHI, RSL*, COR*, CLB* 1 home game: DCU, NYC, ATL, SKC, CHI, MIA, LAG, POR 0 home games: AUS, CIN *teams that won't play their 3rd game until May 8. They each have one home and one away game by May 2. We don't know how that will work.
Given MLS and the teams involved? They'll still just look at the standings on May 2nd and pick the top 8 teams. Its not like they're going to care that Salt Lake, the Crew, and the Rapids get screwed.
Due to challenges surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, U.S. Soccer’s Open Cup Committee has made the difficult decision not to hold the tournament’s previously planned Opening Round. Teams will now enter the tournament at the Round of 16. More information ⤵️— U.S. Soccer (@ussoccer) March 29, 2021
Some people are going to react negatively about this, but just because people are getting vaccinated doesn't mean the pandemic is over. (Folks that went vacaying this past Spring break apparently didn't get the memo, thus cases has been increasing)
Well, I couldn't just wait a few more minutes to post. So PPG on May 3 for MLS entrants. At least we know now.

For games with above average attendance the rose bowl is basically impossible to get to... For barcelona vs galaxy it took me 2 hours just to exit the freeway.
I was thinking of times in average traffic. The roads around the Rose Bowl are not built to handle a capacity crowd. I lived in Pasadena, so for Rose Bowl games I always just took the bus most of the way, got off the bus as soon as I saw heavy traffic, and walked the rest of the way. For the games with bigger crowds I probably overtook a hundred or more cars on foot by the time I got to the stadium.
You can now take the rail to Memorial park in Pasadena from all over Los Angeles. There is a 30 minute walk to the stadium from there (downhill) though uphill on the way back. Though any big games in the future are likely to take place at the Ram's Stadium or the Updated Coliseum. I doubt Pasadena will be in consideration.
I disagree. I think the history of the Rose Bowl will ALWAYS leave it in contention. And despite the difficulties of getting there, people still go. A Rose Bowl event is always an EVENT.
You know, the Coliseum isn't any better for some reason, despite being right off the freeway. The traffic just backs up onto the freeway, and people sometimes miss the entire game just waiting to exit. Though the Coliseum is now perfectly served by rail, so that issue might be solved...
Maybe - but the new shiny in Inglewood will tick the boxes of the fat cats and big whigs. History means nothing when the new hotness is available and willing to host.
