I know we had one going but it was mostly about tickets and beer ;)

    Lets talk soccer

~We will have two very tired teams playing in the rain with Rochester having played even more matches in a few days than the Revs.
~Revs seem to have come alive and are starting to find their form.
    ~TnT knows he can score
    ~Dempsey knows he can score
~Our dedfense knows how to play together.
~Baker is pissed at being subed out Sat and has something to prove
~We do have some fresh legs with TnT, Brilliant, Dorman and Leonard

This is a match that the Revs should win based on their form in the past month. The key will be finishing (dah--as if thats not the key in every match)

    Revs 3-1

I thought Shalrie looked exhausted at the end. Maybe he needs a rest rather than playTuesday against Rochester. Maybe a lot of the starters need a rest. They've played three games in the last 7 days and face a trip to San Jose next weekend. Time to see what Luke and the boys can do.

Speaking of finishing, is anyone else as tired as I am of hearing Harkes and Wynalda say, after someone misses a shot, "you've got to do better with that"? It's not as if Wynalda never missed a shot in his life. And Harkes has absolutely no room for complaining. Harkes should be replaced on MLS Wrap because he is nothing more than a fountain of platitudes and inane comments.

when you are missing the amount of shots the Revs are missing, especially those STRAIGHT AT THE KEEPER, even Tony Frias III can say "you've got to do better with that".

Well, that's life in the USL. Not generally quite that bad, but usually pretty terrible, two games per weekend, and often a midweek game as well.

I don't care if they've played 6 games in three days, the Rhinos are a dangerous team if we don't take them seriously. I think we saw last year the Nicol takes the competition seriously, so I expect that he will field a serious team on Tues, intent on winning. I agree with the strategy of going for an early lead then letting off the gas...except what did that do for the team last night? It is good to have so many options available meaning that even the bench will be strong. This should be a no-excuses-allowed win.

On the bright side looking ahead, the boys get a nice rest after the trip to San Jose this coming weekend.

Agreed that the Rhinos must be taken very seriously.
I would not take my foot off the gas till we were up by three.

I for one am looking forward to the trip. We had a great time last year for a variety of reasons: the Revs won, the beer was cheap, the atmosphere was great, etc. I am excited to be making the trip again. I am hoping that Nicol fields a competitive team with a win in mind; this is another game to practice what we should be doing in our regular season anyhow. Plus, the Open Cup trophy would be a nice addition to the trophy case (that is not as full as any of us would like!). See you all there. I might even bring a muffin tin and spoon of my own this time. :p

Are there any carry-over suspensions from last year? Franchino perhaps?

    I found this at http://www.sportsnetwork.com/default.asp?c=sportsnetwork&page=soc-mls/news/AHN2764736.htm
Since it says nothing about Franchino's card being a carryover to the following year I am left wondering. But having been a philosophy major I know that arguments from silence are fallacious. I'll keep digging.

I seem to remember someone (Heaps?) having to miss an open cup game in the past, based on a card from the previous year. I could be imagining this, though.

yea, as well as last year's rochester game and Sharlie Joseph. He got a red card while with Brooklyn and couldnt play. That was a cool day cause he was asking me and my friend where we got our Revs jerseys.

I haven't been able to find an answer. But I did come across these:

As one of the precious few Revs fans present I got to witness this painful buffoonery from our captain firsthand. And I must say that he deserves a multiple game suspension for it. I believe it was conjectured on BS at the time, but I don't recall ever hearing any judgment coming from USSF (that would be the governing body, correct?)

Got a red card with Brooklyn in the '02 USOC? If he played for Brooklyn in the '03 USOC then he would have been cup-tied anyway.

not to bring the discussion away from the game itself too much...but quick ticket question...

I went to the Big Y a town over today and the lady at customer service had no idea that they were supposed to be selling tickets for this game...I guess they had regular Pioneer game tickets, but none for Tuesday. Does anyone anticipate any problems in getting a ticket on gameday, and how much are those gonna be anyway?

In an effort to answer my own question...

First of all Joseph played for the NY Freedoms (though he is from Grenada via Brooklyn) in 2002 and they did play in the USOC. Since he was drafted by the Revs after that and started playing for the Revs in '03 he could not have played for another team in last year's competition and thus it must have been a carry over red from '02.

That's close enough of an answer for me. I would conclude that Franchino will sit out the game on Tuesday.

It is my understanding that they will be $16 at the gate, but only $12 at Big Y. I will be heading to Big Y tomorrow to get mine. I will probably go to the one in Palmer, but I may go to the one in Ludlow. I'll post a report.

FWIW I found my ticket from last year and the price on the ticket was $18. Also, regular W. Mass. Pioneer matches offer a student price so I will be checking that out for this match as well.

BTW, the throng of Portugal scarves in another thread reminded me...

in case you haven't followed the previous posts about this match, Lusitano Stadium would not be a smart place to wear that snazzy new Greek kit ;)

I can't wait. I need to make some modifications to my bucket drum and dig out the cookie sheet!

Heck no. As long as he's wearing our colors I want him to "keep his edge". Every team needs a guy who can take people like Ratboy, The Fish and Capt Hairdoo and make them wet their pants
