Newspaper covers are all showing disappointment but pride. I don't care what some idiots on social media say, if you throw a rock into a crowd you're almost certain to hit an idiot. The general sentiment from the dailies seems to be more about disappointment. Bellingham was quite good in the final, but showed nerves, similar to some crucial games for us where he was a bit unsettled. On the other hand he's very young.
I don't understand the posters saying that he was poor in the final, I honestly question whether they actually watched the match. Almost all of the players reviews that have been published after the match, say that he was good or very good, depending on the source.
Southgate reverted back to a 4-4-1-1 and moved Bellingham out to left midfield, couldn’t get into the game into he moved central when Southgate made those changes and ended up assisting and building that play. Bellingham was still the best player on the England side aswell, it just speaks volumes. Either tell Foden to do something on the left where he’s played for City or drop him. Simple as that. Anyway, Southgate has to go! Never won anything as a player or manager and he’s tasked with dealing this golden generation of English talent is just a crime. Give Klopp what he wants, throw all the money you have at him and get him onboard when he’s ready. Simple as that.
Eight outta' nine he's the protagonist on the 'front' non sport pages compared to the other cronies. He was lobbed on the left flank like a donkey givin' the Manc the mid & right to do as he wished. The result, carnage. Bello, whether injured or just profusely cooked, left it out there. He wasn't merely a square peg in a round hole, he was sent to Coventry. https://www.tomorrowspapers.co.uk No doubt he will be pleased to venture back home to your lot & normality.
Southgate has been great for England and I suspect you might miss him when he’s gone. I done think Bellingham was terrible but I expect more from him. I don’t think he was up to his usual high standards and if he played all season like that for Madrid I would be very disappointed.
I think this plays a part. They see that the team is almost there so the fear is to make the move and make the team worse than before instead of better. Ideally there would be a progression, but everybody is kind of stuck in the current status because of the risk involved.
This is the thing....people may view it as risky to move on from Southgate but I'm not sure he can get them over the line. There is a HUGE difference between being 90% there....vs 100% getting it done. This is true in so many things in life. England need to take the risk and find them a coach that can truly make them play as a team to maximise the talent they have. Ask Harry Kane about "almost there"...... Can't be afraid to become greater. That comfort zone thing is very dangerous to success...
Jude gets some rest.....hope he takes the time to fix his body. Just be back by the time the CL starts in the 3rd week of September.....we really don't need him before.
He is like Mourinho for us before Carlo and Zidane, but with a positive attitude rather than all the aggro. We used to laugh about the semi final trophies under Mourinho, but he did great to increase the bare minimum level of the team so that they consistently challenged for titles even if they didn’t win them. If you can get a Carlo or Zidane in to replace Southgate and get you over the line, great, but there aren’t a lot of them out there. I always think back to Newcastle under Bobby Robson. He used to get top four or five each season and the fans thought they were too big a club to “only” have that. So they got someone else in and ended up getting relegated.
If we're measuring Southgate by end results i think he's done well by all standards. If we're measuring Southgate by how the team is playing and by maximizing the players he's had available I think he's underperformed. The fact he was tinkering deep into the tournament didn't help his cause and made it seem he had no clue. The Foden/Bellingham debate reminded me of the Gerrard/Lampard debate. Not sure Southgate is the guy to make the drastic call to drop one if needed.
Shoulder is a very complicated joint and apart from clearcut cases surgery is not something that is easily recommended. There are no guarantees plus there are risks.
Hope he takes some time off. At 19 he joined the biggest team in the world in a foreign city and has won all club trophies available. This is just the beginning for him.
Heard Ornstein from the Athletic saying the England camp weren't so happy about him breaking away as a "solo artist" so to speak and the Adidas campaign to present him as some sort of savior, with his "who else?" celebration making that feeling even worse. This is the second time you hear whispers from team mates about this kind of attitude (also happened at Dortmund), so I'm intrigued to see how this plays out in the future. The connection between him and Mbappé will be one to look for certainly.
Bellingham and Vini are besties. There's no seperate camp at RM so onus is on Mbappe to assimilate. RM hasn't had such issues since Spanish vs Brazilian camp in 2006.
Yeah, I think Vinicius is kind of a guy that doesn't want the spotight for himself, every guy he meets he's like "come to Madrid". I think Bellingham wants to be the protagonist though. I don't think it's an issue but I expected to hear stuff like this because it was obvious it would happen and plenty of people here found the "who else" celebration a little bit tactless. I don't think it's an issue for now but it does show that Jude, whether the team likes it or not, will thrust himself to the front.
I, who isnt even a teammate of his thought the "who else" celebration was disrespectful. I am not surprised to hear that it didn't go down well with the Squad. According to BS, I was just being a hater and the squad absolutely loved it What he was accused of at Dortmund was different. He was accused of being a downright ass to his teammates. I have not seen any indication of that yet. He is abit petulant, particularly when he doesn't get a pass. He measured his frustration better for England than he does at RM. When his throwing up of arms can be abit cringe at times. As for having an "arrogant" demeanor like certain sections in England think. Give me a break, do they want him to be a walking corpse like Kane.
