Cause from what I gather tonight I have a feeling he is going to need his own thread.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Is it just my imagination, or does Pat Onstad (from certain angles) look like Moe Howard?

    &nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp GO EARTHQUAKES!!! :(

He is not a MLS calibur keeper.

How can Canada #1 with all that experience make embarrasing blunder like that? Unbelievable.

Oh my, I just got home and was contemplating starting this exact thread.

    **sigh**

I'm giving Onstad hell, zero benefit of the doubt. What happened tonite should not have happened. My son and my friend, with whom I attended the game, BOTH tried making excuses for him, but I just don't but it. Being Canadian is no excuse!! LOL. I'm painfully disappointed. A keeper just doesn't knock in an own-goal when a keeper has the opportunity to control the ball. It's not the way it should work.

I'll go view my tape now to see if I have made a unsubstantiated (sp?--Harp) judgement, but for now, my judgement stands.

    **sigh** I miss Joe.

Need I remind you FahQue that there is a reason why he is their number two keeper?

Couldn't make it to the game tonight, but just saw the highlight on FSW. Ouch. That was truly pathetic. Worse than Enkelman's own goal in that Aston Villa - Birhingham (?) match, where he went to take a pass from his own player and it went under his foot and into goal. Why not catch the ball? He punched it straight into the air and then flailed at it.

Geez, I never thought I would be calling for Jon Conway to start in goal...

Onstad is not (and never was) Canada's #1 'keeper.

That being said, he's far better than what he's displayed at San Jose. I wonder what's wrong with him.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp And when was the last time Canada was in the World Cup?

    &nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp 1986... undoubtedly before Pat Onstad's time! :(

    &nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp GO EARTHQUAKES!!! :(

Maybe the worst MLS play I've ever seen.

    Poor guy.

Well thats still on the horizon with his injury. Sure you dont want to call for Saunders instead, right now?

I saw Saunders was warming up pre-game tonite. Gawd, I just hate to say this but our keeper situation is a very very weak link.

"Onstad feels his strengths are on crosses and in controlling the box, and Hanley said, "He's good in the air. He has what I call clean and soft hands. When he touches a ball he puts it out of danger. He's got a great feel for shot-stopping. There are no real holes in his game. He's really solid."

If thats his strength I'd hate to know what his weakness is

Remember that Cannon wasn't solid when he first started playing for San Jose. He would occasionally let in "soft" goals and sometimes he charged off his line too recklessly. But he improved.

Anyway, the choice for us isn't between Onstad and Cannon, it's between Onstad and Saunders and (eventually) Conway. I haven't seen enough of Saunders to have an opinion on who is better, but I felt more comfortable with Onstad between the poles than Conway.

I agree with TopDogg. He was very good against the Wizards last year in the infamous USOC game. I wonder whats going on with him. I think we can agree that nobody is truly THAT bad.

Yes, poor guy, you could see him replaying it in his head over and over again.

BUT, shyte like that just can't happen if the QUAKES are to be a team to be contended with.

    PATHETIC and USELESS!
You're six foot five, for God's sake, catch the damn ball, don't flail at it like it's going to bite you. I told you "old man" Onstad was a detriment to the team and I was proved correct. Dammit:(

Does that count in the official goalkeeper catch/punch stats? Just curious...

I've watched a lot of bad soccer in Spartan over the years. That was the most truly pathetic thing I've ever seen.

From this moment until he makes me eat these words, I shall refer to him only as Pat Offstad. Cuz he hasn't been very "on" from what I've seen.

I swear, the co-rec goalkeeper who plays for the team I'm currently on hiatus from could've handled that better.

Ken Dryden could've handled that better, even though he played hockey and he's 55 years old now.

Absolutely ridiculous! I agree with Beer King, all he had to do was catch the ball and we would have had 3 points! I am wondering if FY is going to look towards the bench against LA. Any more little mistakes like that against the Galaxatives and the Fish will bury us! I am very disappointed in Onstad's play.

    Go Quakes!

For what it's worth, I've seen Saunders in training. When both he and J-Co were heathly and when only he and Onstad were healthy. I was impressed by Saunders the most.

Onstad flat out scared me from what I saw in training. J-Co hadn't improved enough, in my opinion. He had to step up and fill Joe's shoes. But it didn't seem to me that he was ready. Then there was Saunders. Well, he's a bit green. Still young. But really, he was lots better than J-Co or Onstad.

Now, this was only my observation from training sessions. And quite honestly, Waibel looks pretty good in training too. So I guess I'm really not saying too much! :D

When it really comes down to it, would I say put Saunders in against LA? No. But at this point, I think we're just screwed against that Fish! I'm scared for next week's game. Though Eddie did say they were aiming to bring him back next week. That would help. But I'm not too confident in the keepers we have. JOE COME HOME, PLEASE!!

Actually, all im going to say is that giving goals away drives me nuts. The Quakes arent good enough to gift other teams goals consistently.
