OK, I know that some of you don't really care too much about putting FC Dallas 96 and the Chicago Fire together in the same conference. Some of you don't really care that much the Brimstone Cup at all. Some of you would like to see a single table more than anything else because you want all those cool kids in Europe to like us more. Then don't bother with this petition. However, many of us think that the Brimstone Cup rivalry is A Good Thing for the league, many of us think that splitting Dallas and Chicago in 2002 was detrimental to the rivalry, and many of us would like to see Dallas and Chicago together again to help stoke the flames of rivalry. If you're one of those people, go to http://www.PetitionOnline.com/mls2005/petition.html and let the suits at Major League Soccer know how you feel.
what i really want is a team in milwaukee or st. louis and have a geographic rivalry that lends well to a road trip.
Do you have 30 million dollars? I would love a Milwaukee, St. Louis, or Detroit team too. But Dallas, for now, has been it mostly. I would like to see that return to prominence. 48 signatures so far...thanks to everyone who cares.
It's the best way to avoid that stupid "cup retention" crap. Finally, a real winner this year. Kinda sad when I am glad the other team won... because the lack of a winner is worse.
I don't really care either way so I signed it anyway. KC is a good roadtrip but one I will only take once or twice a year anyway. Maybe our rivalry can heat up once we get our own stadiums etc etc. Hate is good.
If we get a few hundred I'll personally FedEx the petition and letters to the GMs of FC Dallas an Chicago, and the commissioner and deputy commissioner of MLS. Physical paper petitions sent express mail will probably garner more attention and scrutiny than an online one.
No, I mean it'll be a few hundred for me to justify doing the FedExing. I have no pretentions that this will actually work. Still, it will serve a purpose to let MLS know directly what the wishes of many people at the heart of these two clubs' fanbases are. by the way, this was interesting (from Dallas GM Greg Elliot's letter to fans) Obviously they think quite a lot of it.
Don't limit it to the two clubs. KC has as much interest in staying in the west, and it seems LA would like to keep them there too.
I think putting Dallas and Chicago in the same division would make more sense than throwing KC in the East. When you've got a good rivalry, playing each other 4 times a year makes it much more interesting. I've been to 5, soon to be 6, DC vs. Metro games this season, and it NEVER gets old. From what I hear, the Chicago-Dallas rivalry is just as hot, and I think the league should encourage that.
After we get done with this petition can we start up another petition asking Uncle Phil to build a stadium for a team in Milwaukee. Just trying to help the fire fans out...
This is a pretty good realignment idea from the MLS forum that should get more attention here and in general. It's not perfect but I think it pleases the most number of people without screwing things up too much.
