OK, I know that some of you don't really care too much about putting FC Dallas 96 and the Chicago Fire together in the same conference. Some of you don't really care that much the Brimstone Cup at all. Some of you are hung up on geography and technically, Kansas City is a couple of hundred miles further east than Dallas. Some of you would like to see a single table more than anything else because you want all those cool kids in Europe to like us more. Then don't bother with this petition. However, many of us think that the Brimstone Cup rivalry is A Good Thing for the league, many of us think that splitting Dallas and Chicago in 2002 was detrimental to the rivalry, and many of us would like to see Dallas and Chicago together again to help stoke the flames of rivalry. Likewise, most Kansas City fans would rather have more games against the Galaxy and the Quakes. So, to many of us, putting FCD96 in the East and KC in the West would be the obvious solution. If you're one of those people, go to http://www.PetitionOnline.com/mls2005/petition.html and let the suits at Major League Soccer know how you feel.
This petition is a good thing if people get behind it. It would be good to see supporters from all teams come up with reasons to sign it.
Great idea El Jefe, KC has memorable history with SJ and LA, whereas Dallas doesn't really. And obviously the Brimstone Cup is worthy of respect.
I signed it, but I'm not optimistic. KC is a better team than Dallas, and the West is better than the East, so moving KC to the East helps with league parity somewhat. That, more than a couple hundred miles, is probably the reason MLS has probably already decided to move them. Maybe it's my peculiar California perspective, but I've always thought of Dallas as being aligned more east and KC of being more west, even before I heard of MLS.
Isn't KC/St.Louis "The Gateway to the West"? North Texas/the Metroplex is much more East Coast then West Coast in tenor...though granted it's not that close to either. Dallas has a lot of relocated East Coasters...more so than from Cali or something.
Yes, but if you look at the NFL the Cheifs are long standing in the AFC West while the Cowboys (lets face it, the only Texas football team that most of America thinks about) are in the NFC East. Because a majority of the teams in most professional sports leagues are in the east, any city west of the Mississippi is usually in the "west". Let's not get into why the Falcons were in the NFC West for so long, I'm still confused by that one...
The difference is pretty slight, and I can't think of any reason for it to be self-replicating. If Landon leaves, that takes care of a good bit of the difference right there.
I recently got tired of waiting for a team to come to my backyard, so I am now an FC Dallas supporter. My point: This is a new team. It is west of Kansas City. It is a golden opportunity to create new rivalries. I know Chicagoans hate everything Dallas (this goes back before the Wilson administration), but this is a chance to re-invent the club. Forget the NFL and it's goofy alignments. If the East-West conference alignment thing remains, then this club needs to be in the Western Conference.
I'm behind the petition all the way. The Galaxy-KC rivalry is just getting really heated, and the Brimstone Cup is of course already a MLS classic.
That's an even stronger argument as to why Dallas needs to be in the East.... THERE IS WAY TOO MUCH PARITY IN THIS LEAGUE. If moving Dallas east-coast helps to lessen the extreme amount of parity in this league, then I'm all for it. The western conference is gonna be the sh!t anyway next season, look at the rivalries: San Jose-Galaxy (I'm pretty certain that San Jose will be staying there) Galaxy-Chivas KC-Galaxy Colorado-asswipes (I mean, Real Salt Lake )
I'll do it only if United get's Dallas' #1 pick in return for a lightly used David Stokes jockstrap and Quaranta's colostomy bag. Sachin
I say ******** Dallas, but I signed anway. What the hell, youse guys got that rivalry thing with the Fire, after all. Still, this just makes the east all that much weaker.
this 'rivalry' with KC is news to me yeah we don't like KC over in LA, but that's because they play boring soccer (and as you know we LOOOOOVE EXCITING ENTERTAINING soccer in LA.......thanks DH). The rivalry is more of a KC thing than LA. so just out of spite...................I didn't sign
Strength and weakness of the divisions will change in time though, the pendulum always is swinging in one direction or another, so you shouldn't judge a move based on how well a team is doing THIS YEAR. Remember Dallas used to be a periennal contender in the west before 2 years ago and SJ was the league doormat the first 3 seasons.
I've been waiting for someone to remind me that there will be two expansion clubs in the West next year.
