As I'm sure that many of you are aware, MLS is considering whether or not to move the Wizards or FC Dallas 96 to the Eastern Conference next season when Chivas USA and Real Salt Lake join the league and are placed in the Western Conference. I've gotten the impression that most of you Wizards fans would rather stay together with the Gals and the Quakes and the Rapids in the Western Conference, and a poll I started here a couple of weeks ago pretty much backs up that impression. Likewise, many FCD96 and Chicago Fire fans would rather have FCD96 move to the Eastern Conference because of the Brimstone Cup. So for many of us, it seems like a pretty obvious decision. If you're one of those people, go to http://www.PetitionOnline.com/mls2005/petition.html and let the suits at Major League Soccer know how you feel.
I think this should probably be the "keep the wizards in kansas city" thread/petition before we worry about east vs. west.
Would you prefer seeing the following teams twice at home next year: Galaxy, Quakes, Chivas and Real SLC? Or would you rather see the following teams twice at home next season: Fire, Crew, Revolution, Metros and DC United?
Done. Frankly, considering the FC Dallas guess-the-new-name "contest" and Checketts' complete disregard for the fans' voice re: Salt Lake's name, I'm not too sure how effective any "listen to the fans" action is going to be, but thanks for doing it anyway. Hopefully it will help. Maybe Peter Wilt can draw someone's attention to it.
Only one or the other. It'll either be... West Colorado Salt Lake LA Gals LA Goats San Jose Kansas City East Chicago Columbus Dallas DC United Metros New England ...or... West Colorado Dallas Salt Lake LA Gals LA Goats San Jose East Chicago Columbus DC United Kansas City Metros New England The petition is to urge MLS to make it the former, not the latter.
Then you would have 7 teams in the east (KC, Dallas, Chicago, Columbus, NER, DCU, Metros) and only 5 teams in the west (SLC, Chivas, Colorado, LAG, SJ). Only one of the two (KC or Dallas) will have to move to the eastern conference.
As I said, it doesn't matter. Part of me likes the tradition of playing in the West, and says we're not an eastern team, but another part of me wants a change since there is no real rivalry for us in the west (who doesn't hate LA).
From the $5 WCF ticket release: It seems like they acknowledge LA is your biggest rival and statements like that are indication KC is likely better off in the West.
Are you serious? That was a ridiculous rumor like 5 months ago. K.C. has good crowds, a dedicated owner and a good team. Take that. The moving threat was barganing to build a new stadium.
Trecker wrote another article further emphasizing and repeating that MLS headquarters is talking about us moving as early as this season. It almost had a tone of "I know people are saying that I'm lying, and I'm sure about it." That's why it has people concerned. I still think he's full of crap and if MLS Headquarters is talking about it, it's because they want a dialog here on an SSS. Fear, as will be seen tommorrow, is a very powerful tool.
Curt told us at the tailgate the other day that it's pretty much a done deal that we're in the East. Everything is pointing that way at least. We weren't even listed as a possible rival in a SLC poll the other day. They had every other Western Conference team listed and Chivas.
So, you have nothing to lose. Sign the petition because Chicago and Dallas fans are doing the legwork anyway. Once we have over 200 signatures and comments from the individual clubs and fan groups as well as the Brimstone committee, I'll be FedExing printed copies to people i know at each club and the league as well as the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner. I have no pretentions that this will work, but it is to let them know how we feel about it.
