Danny Acosta took his time, but it appears that he has made his official switch to Honduras: https://www.jfa.jp/news/00027238/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
June 2021 update (with more changes possible): IN Tyler Boyd Teal Bunbury Edgar Castillo Jesse Gonzalez Julian Green Aron Johannsson Fabian Johnson Jermaine Jones Edwin Lara Aaron Maund Andres Perea Kenny Saief OUT Danilo Acosta (to Honduras) Arturo Alvarez (to El Salvador) Issac Angking (to Puerto Rico) Eric Calvillo (to El Salvador) Dustin Correa (to El Salvador) Jonathan Gonzalez (to Mexico) Jeremy Hall (to Puerto Rico) Moises Hernandez (to Guatemala) Fuad Ibrahim (to Ethiopia) Gerson Mayen (to El Salvador) Nick Millington (to Guyana) Amando Moreno (to El Salvador)* Alex Nimo (to Liberia) Joshua Perez (to El Salvador) Oscar Sorto (to El Salvador) Nevin Subotic (to Serbia) Tony Taylor (to Panama) Zarek Valentin (to Puerto Rico) Eriq Zavaleta (to El Salvador) Alejandro Zendejas (to Mexico)* * Pending confirmation.
There is some precedence to players not having file a switch and still being on a Gold Cup provisional roster (see Danny Acosta). I'd like to see an announcement just to confirm.
According to @KristianRDyer, Ayo Akinola will indeed be called up to the Canadian men's national team for the upcoming Gold Cup.https://t.co/uS1JrXiMTb— Michael Singh (@MichaelSingh94) June 30, 2021

While there is concern about GK David Ochoa being in camp with Mexico right now (including a fake Twitter account claiming he had filed his one-time switch), one MLS GK -- Tomas Romero of LAFC -- is interested in switching to the USMNT. https://en.as.com/en/2021/07/07/football/1625611706_886017.html
David Ochoa seems intent on filing his one-time switch: David Ochoa, the @realsaltlake keeper who repped the #USMNT during Olympic qualifying and backed up Zack Steffen and Ethan Horvath in the Nations League in June, is requesting a change of association to Mexico, multiple sources tell @FOXSports.— Doug McIntyre (@ByDougMcIntyre) August 2, 2021
August 2021 update (pre-Ochoa announcement): IN Tyler Boyd Teal Bunbury Edgar Castillo Jesse Gonzalez Julian Green Aron Johannsson Fabian Johnson Jermaine Jones Edwin Lara Aaron Maund Andres Perea Kenny Saief OUT Danilo Acosta (to Honduras) Ayo Akinola (to Canada) Arturo Alvarez (to El Salvador) Issac Angking (to Puerto Rico) Eric Calvillo (to El Salvador) Dustin Correa (to El Salvador) Jonathan Gonzalez (to Mexico) Jeremy Hall (to Puerto Rico) Moises Hernandez (to Guatemala) Fuad Ibrahim (to Ethiopia) Gerson Mayen (to El Salvador) Nick Millington (to Guyana) Amando Moreno (to El Salvador) Alex Nimo (to Liberia) Joshua Perez (to El Salvador) Oscar Sorto (to El Salvador) Nevin Subotic (to Serbia) Tony Taylor (to Panama) Zarek Valentin (to Puerto Rico) Eriq Zavaleta (to El Salvador) Alejandro Zendejas (to Mexico)
What a jackass... but whatever... can’t say that I wish him well. He definitely took advantage of the US system to play for an inferior squad. Maybe he’ll be a good goalkeeper someday, but his value is that he’s young not what he is now. He has Jesse Gonzalez 2.0 written all over him. I.e. don’t count that he’s going to be that elite. ...I guess we should start calling Mexico the US D team.
Good luck to him. The only thing that annoys was his being part of the NL team. It's not prudent to have fence-sitters on competitive senior team rosters.
Anyone know where he ranks in Mexicos pool? It seems a tad premature to do this since Memo isn't giving that spot up for at least 16+ months, but I guess maybe committing quickly gives him a bettet shot at being #2 or #3 in Qatar
After the way Turner played in the Gold Cup I am not surprised at all. Mexico has a bunch of old keepers including the one we beat Sunday.
Its certainly possible that Ochoa let Berhalter know that he was in waffling mode. Berhalter may have told him that he'd like to bring him into the NL and not cap-tie him. Just so he could see what being part of the program is like. [I have a sneaking suspicion that we did the same with Musah, who we didn't cap-tie at that same event.] There's no reason for us to necessarily suspect that Ochoa wasn't being truthful with the USMNT staff.
I read that he wanted to be part of the GC roster, but GB told him to remain with SRL, all of this was after we went training with Mexico. Probably felt he was going to be black-balled going forward.
From what I understand this isn't official yet... Doug do you think it has something to do with US fans attacking him like he posted on his IG yesterday or do you just choose to not include that in your tweets and say it's merely a depth chart decision? This goes on a lot with Mexican dual nationals who are pressured by US fans pic.twitter.com/uOpGxcwaud— Santiago Muñez (@mozkid8) August 2, 2021
If you think American fans are harsh on twitter/instagram, read what Mexican fans say. A player shouldn't be basing any career decisions on the knuckleheads of social media. And that includes BigSoccer.
All you have to do is go to that guy's insta and you will see he is a troll. Of course, people will use it as "see, in the US they are very racist towards us" but the one sending that to Ochoa, according to LigaMX Reddit is a Guatemalan. He also talks shit about the USMNT and MX. With today's technology anyone can finally say what they want to another person without getting their teeth knocked out because they hide behind a screen.
I'd be surprised if that's the case with Musah especially after they had that whole video announcement thing that he was choosing the US
I would also note that any racist behaviour online whether Mexican, American, or otherwise needs to be dealt with harshly. Its hard to police, but efforts must be made. It can't be tolerated. There's no difference between that and the racist abuse that we see all the time directed towards English players.
