is rivalry. Sue Wicks (of the WNBA) seems to understand that: The WUSA is still in the "early on" stage. When it gets past that stage, when Mia Hamm gets regularlry booed on the road, when disliking a team is more important than liking a player, when it's a sports issue, then the WUSA will have arrived. That will be nice.
Exactly. Screaming insults and profanity at the opposition and the refs is not appropriate in kids' soccer but it's entirely appropriate in professional soccer. It's true sports fan behavior. I'll bet even the players would love to hear some racous goings-on in the stands at the games. Even if it was directed at them.
Guess it's gonna be a while then. I've been to several WUSA matches in the past two seasons and have yelled out "You suck!!" type of things and I swear on my father's grave that at least 3/4 of the people around me look at me like I'm insane. Sorry. But showing hatred for the other team is not gonna fly in this league.
And the Charge hating is heating up too! The Charge suck ass! Screw the Charge!!!!---See It's happening little by little. Hooper gets booed in SD. And at FCII when they were anouncing starting line ups, Prinze go booed VERY loudly. I booed. It was fun.
Beat fans have incorporated booing this year. Prinz gets booed. The ref's definitely get booed and we already have two teams we hate...SD and Carolina. Carolina is the one we REALLY hate right now! It makes for good rivalry since we are close, location wise. We always cheer when Nonen tosses someone and we yell like crazy when the visiting team gets cards!!
For me, the key is Mia. The league will have matured when Mia gets booed the loudest of anybody. That's when we'll know that we have fans of teams, not just hero worship. It's easy to hate the Beasts (they are quite dislikeable); it's easy to dislike Hooper (she's so 'in your face'); it's easy to boo Prinz (a foreigner who looks like a guy); it's too easy to boo the ref. It's easy to laugh at how Charge fans think their team is so great, and it's easy to feel sorry for Power fans. Mia's the tough one, 'cuz she's 'nice', and self-depricating to a fault, and everybody's favorite. The question I have is: can you boo Mia Hamm? Can you boo "little miss perfect"? Can you boo the diver out of North Carolina? Can you boo her when she acts like a spoiled little brat and yells obscenities at the ref? Can you cheer when she get the card she so richly deserves? If the league is for real, Mia should get booed everywhere she goes.
Mia who? Oh! Mia boo! The ability to "boo" is not the problem, because you can put your lips together and boo at whomever you want...the problem is making it out of the stadium alive once you've booed that person. So once everyone has perfected the boo "duck and cover," we can say we've made progress... "Hate" is such a plain word when used towards Atlanta....I prefer "loathe" and "detest"
the washington post credits us with booing mia i have seen more rivalry this year from last...hooper tops the list of villians...the charge also make a case as well...i regulary taunt and no one in NC makes a fuss...sure beats the preseason where soccer parent nazis kicked me out of a section for booing webber and coming to a road game in charge gear
I almost forgot!!!!!!!!!!!! oh yeah given that im a die hard Liberty fan SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
