This Freire person is on fire....

"Any of these groups that says, "I'm young, I'm Democratic, and I'm a socialist," is okay with me. You know that's no light thing to do -- to actually say, I'm a socialist. You've got to know, actually, we are living in a time that's going to dwarf the McCarthy era. We are living in a time that'll dwarf the internment era of internment during World War II. We are right now in a time that is going to dwarf the era of Jim Crow and segregation."

I guess she thinks us crazy Tea Partiers are going to round up the Socilaists & lock them up.

I think it goes without saying that Bertha Lewis, who I know pretty well, was speaking in a hyperbolic manner and is not a very impressive person at any rate.

On the other hand, we have guantanamo -- an internment camp that you support steamer. And there was a time in 2004 or so that 1/3 of Americans believed that Muslims should be rounded up in internment camps in the US.

Also, we have members of congress who have called for investigations into "unamerican" activities of members of congress. And we have a barnstorming vice presidential candidate who talks about "real Americans" in contrast to other Americans she deems unamerican.

So while these are exaggerations, it's not as wildly off the mark as yo uthink.

But most importantly, I never cease to be amazed about how so many people who confuse what is best for the nation with party politics. He's suggesting that, somehow, it's hypocritical for someone who is presumably a Democrat (and she's actually not, she's a member of the Working Families Party here in NY) to think that the internment of the Japanese was bad because FDR did it.

It's something you do all the time Steamer, you're confused between policy and party politics.
