http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story?id=470417&root=mls&cc=5901 Fifth item down the list. Now, I hold Hopkins in about as high a regard as I do the rest of ESPN's soccer "experts" And, this item is not exactly hot breaking news; still, interesting.
I see in the near future reyna will either go to FL and live the life with the old people or id DP status will get droped.... thats what i get from the quote from bruce.... and if bruce does do that then he should get an extention
I have a feeling that if offered none-DP status and a quarter of his current salary, he's going to take it.
It's pretty new. A while back Ives got word from Reyna that he wanted to play out his contract. On a side note, how did Allan get a hold of a quote from Bruce? He's like the most inaccessible coach this team has ever had.
You're all novice fans because if you weren't you would notice all of the "little things" and leadership he brings to this club. Hopefully we can expect more brilliant leadership and stunning play from one of the greatest players to ever suit up for the USMT and our favorite RedBull Sarcasm off, Hopefully this article is accurate.
I've suspected this would be the case all along actually. As disappointing as Reyna has been he hasnt been the worst DP. Denilson has been awful for Dallas. He didnt even make the gameday roster for the US Open Cup final.
Yeah, hopefully next year (in retirement) he'll be doing lots of "little things" around his house and instilling his great leadership qualities on his kids. I'm hoping for that as well, however the "MLS inner circle" sentence also makes me wonder if Hopkins isn't just making crap up.
I hope Claudio hangs his boots up. He shouldn't wait until he gets his last possible dollar. Look what that did for Tab. If Claudio goes out gracefully I'm sure he will have a secure future in MLS/USSF/SUM.
So it may not be impossible to think that Red Bull will have two new DP's next year plus Angel, if as thought by many the league will add another slot. That could be our key. That's how you get to the next level without having a massive rebuilding stage.
If Claudio retires(which I've suspected all along) and Jozy doesnt go to Europe but signs a big offer I would suspect he would fill the DP slot. With Jozy's bargaining position I think he either signs a million dollar a year deal this offseason with Red Bull or he gets sold to a Euro team.
That would make for a very interesting decision. I don't know what I would do in that case if I were RB.
How many DPs on DCU? The DP can't make a difference without competent players around him: competent and consistant. How many of our players (other than the ones we traded away) would start on another team in this league?
I think many of them. Jozy, Mathis, Richards, Dema, VDB and Doe would all have a crack at starting on most teams. Stammler and Vide havn't been eye sores. I might be in the monority, but I think we have a decent roster. How we play as a team, now thats a different story.
I think you could at least convince him of "one more year" and then sell him if he wants to leave at the end of 2008. One more year of a fat paycheck while staying at home could be pretty enticing.
