What good is there in protesting to a referee that already handed out a yellow to Bartlet for protesting that the assistant didn't raise the offside flag soon enough? The referee clearly had zero interest in a fair match and dealing amicably with players protestations. Just like Benteke gets called for fouls when he gets mauled by defenders... Messi League Soccer is a ********ing joke. The fact that the MLS announcers declared happily that the ********ing Messi was back playing for Miami during our match shows where this league is and what they care about.
This is not correct. This isn’t hockey where players need to “tag up” and re-establish themselves onside if they were in an offside position. The offside determination resets on every action. In this case, Pirani’s first touch to control Herrera’s shot means that McVey was in an onside position again. This is the point where there can be subjectivity as to whether or not McVey fouled the player or not, but to say that offside had anything to do with this play is just a massive mistake from the officiating crew.
Not sure why it is, but Peltola seems to really divide fan opinion. I'm with those who think he's mediocre at best. Puzzles me that there are people who think he's good. Wondering what they see in him.
I thought it was a pretty typical PRO officiating performance. On the small stuff it was even enough and the bigger calls generally going against us. There were 2 fouls whistled for fouls on Bentke which I can't remember the last time he drew a foul in spite of being mugged multiple times every game. While we didn't dominate the ball, we had more and better chances which isn't usually the case. Freese was really on for NYC and on another night we might have gotten another goal, but we're a club that has only claimed a third (15/45) of its points at home thus far and only 4 points at home since the midway point of the season, with 2 home games to go. Everyone behind us except Chicago has games in hand. Crew & CLiT will be tough games to get anything out of. He's better than just about any player you'll get out of an MLS draft after a couple of years exp, but I'd much rather have LOB or Victor Pálsson who may or may not be/have been any better, but its a perception thing. There's a certain raggedness to Peltola when he's on the ball which I think is off putting and doesn't inspire confidence.
Yeah, I don’t see it with Peltola either. He’s good on the ball, but where’s the defense a defensive midfielder is supposed to offer. I just think he’s too slow and ends up being a turnstile in the middle. DC can’t afford a luxury player at dm, much less one who’s not elite on the ball. Give me Enow all day, warts and all, at least that guy can get around the field. I watched England v Finland and Peltola couldn’t get involved, the game took place all around him while he watched helplessly. Having said all that, his national manager starts him and his club manager plays him enough so I’m wrong about him somehow.
Peltola = young Markus Halsti. Olsen figured out real quick Halsti couldn’t cut it but because Peltola is young he gets more rope. However, with Enow and probably Canouse back next season, Peltola is probably going to have to concentrate on center back to get back in the team.
I feel the same on Peltola. I’m curious to see how Lesesne coaches him up the next few years though. I’d like to see him hit the weight room this off-season and move to central defense. He really doesn’t have the wheels to be as effective in the midfield, but I could see him flourishing where he doesn’t have to cover as much ground. And his passing would have a much bigger impact from that spot.
This is literally the first time I've seen refs in the MLS refs forum go "WTF, that was a huge mistake by the officiating crew." I mean, to paraphrase, of course.
It’s just a completely egregious error. If this were a major international competition or top European club competition, the crew would be spending quite a bit of time away from the game. Just ridiculous.
Thank you for referencing that forum, as well. I wasn’t aware of it. It’s helpful to read the discussion.
I aggressively avoid that forum. You can agree with those guys and still be wrong and the reaction is often one I would liken to the 5 monkeys experiment. Substitute refs for monkeys and the ladder with disagreeing.
I can’t recall a time being angry while at the zoo. I can recall many times being angry at referees while playing, watching, and coaching soccer. Therefore it’s clear: monkeys > referees
If no game threads. here's some news as per Goff: D.C. United availability update for Sunday at Philadelphia: Mateusz Klich returns from suspension, but Lucas Bartlett is out on yellow cards. Matai Akinmboni might return to matchday roster, but David Schnegg and Jackson Hopkins remain sidelined, per Troy Lesesne.
if you get the NYtimes/Athletic, they have a nice feature on Benteke https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/57...ian-benteke-dc-united-interview-analysis-mls/
If you hunt for DCU UK on youtube for his podcast (live video stream, so not really the right term) - He has my boy Russell Canouse and will be live in about, well 5 minutes so the link just popped up for me
since we are no longer really talking about dcunited, there is this: F1® Arcade (f1arcade.com) now in DC. How long before we get an MLS arcade....!?!?
