Yeah I noticed shammypants is missing prob sitting out the rest of another poor season, fake comeback notwithstanding. Having said that, they can make the playoffs. Philly, Toronto and Atlanta have difficult schedules on paper and DC gets a shot a Philly head to head. I’ll go on record and say DC will stub their toe and fall short but if they can somehow get a draw in Philly I may change my mind. Obviously 3 points a must but again DC sucks ass at home so I’d be silly to expect the result we need. NYC is better than Dallas after all.
Klich being suspended for Saturday due to that bogus yellow he picked up at the end of the Fire game will hurt, but I'm comfortable with Rodriguez slotting into that role.
The only way Klich is getting any rest this season is by putting himself on the yellow card suspension list
https://mlsplayers.org/news/2025-free-agent-list A list of free agents for this offseason. Some interesting names there.
After muting the league for a month, I am finding it hard to give a shit one way or the other about MLS. Just another negative externality of forcing the league take a month-long break in the middle of the season.
Maybe not the league so much, but definitely our front office, might consider your (and definitely my and that of a few others on here) lack of attention a bonus...
I've never given a shit about any MLS game that I wasn't personally invested in. You aren't alone. There is so much better football to watch for neutrals. The only people watching DC, Chicago, Colorado, et. al. are their own fans (and the away fans). That's it. Since LAFC got off the ground I now have a local team to watch live (son used to play for their academy but now rows a boat). I now have to watch Cal play pointy as my daughter is a freshman there. The time to just watch MLS rubbish is long gone. That's why I like the evening games.
I have so few f_cks right now, I can barely muster the desire to turn on the AppleTV and subject myself to 90 min of someone else's awful home town announcers or Lloyd Sam. At least with us sucking there haven't been many Taylor Twellman games.
I will always use the local audio or mute it and sync internet audio if that's an option. Can't do the MLS announcers. Watching with the local radio and seeing that the video is cutting to coaches, or fans when the game is on just proves that they don't know how to shoot a football match.
Since you guys mentioned it I also don’t watch MLS games even if I have nothing better to do. It didn’t really occur to me until just now. I do watch highlights, the 7 minute recaps are perfect. I think the first thing that turned me off was the quality of the referees. I hear people complain about EPL refs but my god those games run like a dream comparatively. Will they ever fix the terrible referees?
I told the club in the midseason survey that they should have stuck with the replacement refs, they were at least credible in their incompetence. My little one loses it when everyone in the stands is shouting about how badly they missed yet another call against us and the SGs are chanting, "ref you suck" on almost every other game basis. Her melt down over the missed PK on Busquets was near apocalyptic. Its why I went and asked the AR at the Dallas game if the league office tells them to screw DCU over.
Ted is here to stay! 🖤❤️We're delighted to announce that we've signed Ted Ku-DiPietro to a U22 Initiative Contract through 2027! pic.twitter.com/TgerCyBrNX— D.C. United (@dcunited) September 12, 2024
Current DPs for 2025: Benteke Peltola (young DP) U-22s for 2025: Pirani Ku-DiPietro Klich could be back, as there is an option for 2025. Would be interesting to see if the team would consider bringing Klich back on a TAM deal, opening up a DP slot. It makes zero sense to buy down Peltola next year, as his cap hit will be around $200k as a young DP.
If the new GM... Andy? MC??? ... has any actual control, then it should not be bought down. If anyone else is pulling the strings, then that's exactly what will happen with our history as any indication.
My impression of Peltola is, if we were smart we could get a player that good with a high draft choice. He’s a mediocre MLSer. Now, a team needs mediocre players…mediocre doesn’t mean they suck, just they’re…mediocre. A guy like Peltola could be like the handful of guys the Crew rotate in the starting XI. But for the Crew, those players are mostly draft picks or from the academy. Here his squad status and pay are that of an everyday first XI player. Here’s how I think about it…I’m a fan of the Carolina Hurricanes. (Boo Crapitols!). We had a decade of not making the playoffs, and often not really being that close. Anyway, during that period, we’d make a trade and bring in some team’s 3rd line winger and he’d be 2nd line for us, or a 3rd pairing D man who would be 2nd pairing with us. That made it clear that the Canes’ talent just wasn’t good enough. And that mentality is a lot of how I think about players in MLS. DC has too many players who have a role one notch higher with us than they’d have with the good-but-not-rich teams like FCC, or this year’s RSL.
