When I am in the stadium I prefer not to be there alone. But when I am watching on TV, I dont care how many people are in the stadium. The players do not care how many people are watching on TV. Sure, the players would like to play in front of a full house of supporters, but since our supporters are now only advertising shills and haven't provided any actual homefield advantage for about 6 years, does it really matter to the players if anyone but their friends and family are in the stands?
Competitive games versus Liga MX with CONCACAF Champions Cup spots on the line. I’m unhappy that MLS ducked USOC this year and hope it returns next year, but getting Leagues Cup off the ground is a major win for Garber/MLS. They swapped the most boring and redundant part of the MLS calendar for something fun, unique, and interesting which happens to have a lot of interest beyond our borders thanks to the Mexican aspect. Much as I adore USOC there’s simply no argument that DCU/Santos is a more meaningful and visible match than playing Rochester Flower Power or whatever.
I’ll gladly go and watch DC United play Mexican clubs when DCU does something to qualify for it while playing Mexican clubs that did something similar. You know like the CONCACAF Champions League or whatever they call it. Little interest in a 2 league participation cup. I told my ticket rep the same.
For a domestic opponent is one thing. Playing a foreign opponent in a tournament should be a privilege.
Does this hold true in Europe? Teams from England and Wales are in the same competitions all the time from the get go. Given that Leagues Cup is the friendliest path for Champions Cup qualification, it carries plenty of weight for me. It’s new and unique in that it pits the entirety of two leagues against each other, but to me that’s a feature, not a bug.
Welsh teams that play in England competitions, joined those leagues. So if Monterey or Club America want to join MLS, go for it. Just like Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver play in MLS and not Canadian Premier League.
Any match involving a Mexican side is dull and boring to me. So this whole thing is a waste of time to me. I have no interest in watching this. Good for Garber Bucks if it makes him and the #@$%& owners money but I will not watch until league play returns.
It was in response to “Playing a foreign opponent in a tournament should be a privilege.” It happens all the time, including in MLS as rev notes.
Um, I don't consider the three Canadian teams as foreign for the sake of our league. Yes, they are in another country but they are in our domestic league.
Ok so 2/3 Canadian teams have a near 50% chance of winning a cup while Montreal lives as a the 00 on wheel of Canadian soccer roulette.
According to FBRef.com, Bartlett is #2 with 84 won (against 46 lost). #1, with a bullet, is Benteke - 237 won, 76 lost. Birnbaum was an ace at winning aerial duels back in his heyday. FBRef has him leading MLS 3 times in the years they have stats for them.
Birnbaum had knee replacement according to his Insta. Like DAMN, he was playing professional sports with his knee in that condition. I've got 20 ys on him and will eventually have partials in both knees. He must have been excruciating pain the last year or two.
