Missed the 0-1 loss at home to Fluminense in the Copa Sudamericana, but should be able to watch tonight's away match in Chile (Union Espaniola). Union are 14th in the Chilean table with only 3 points from 5 matches.
Yeah, nice goal by Moreno. He and Barrios switched it up, with Barrios taking the ball down the middle of the pitch and passing out to the left side to Moreno who hit a beauty into the far corner. Just moments before that, he forced the GK to make a fingertip save on a free kick. Alejandro Garcia scored the second goal from a long-range free kick. Ball went through the box, touching nobody and fooling the GK who was waiting for a touch from someone else. Nice 0-2 away win for Once.
It was a golazo but the game was unwatchable up until then. But I'll take the win. The america game was much more entertaining.
For sure, the first half was painful to watch! Once finally began to string some passes together in the second half even though the possession ended up ~64% for Union. And Alejandro Garcia replaced Dorrego in central midfield. Garcia seems to get more involved in the offense.
Yes I barely counted more than 3 passes in a row for either side in the first half. What a garbage game to watch. When you see that you can perfectly understand how a player who's 40 still can remain current. I can't wait for the league-format to start in the cups. I read that it's possible it will begin in 2027 but nothing concrete yet. But maybe that will help to raise the quality of the football as well, so the best teams advance always.
Caught only the first half of the Boyaca Chico - Once match. The Caldas squad was suffering a Copa hangover in their 0-0 draw. Boyaca defense allowed Once to march down the field and waste chance after chance in and near the box. Bolivian striker Gilbert Alvarez started the match, and was horrible. He had an open chance from 19 yards out directly in the middle and fired 20 yards wide of the post. And then, given a PK (Zapata rugby-tackled in the box), he fired wide of the right post from only six yards out. Second half must have been a boxing match with two players from each side getting red-carded. What a waste of a chance to move up the table.
Once left it late but turned on the offense in the final 20 minutes to run out 3-0 winners over visiting La Equidad. Substitute and 22-yo LW attacker Mateo Zuleta scored his first league goal and assisted on another. And Dayro Moreno added his 7th goal of the season.
Some execrable first-half defending gifted Ind. Medellin two goals in quick succession (2 minutes apart) and sent Once down to a 2-0 away loss. The LB in particular, Castaño, made several bad decisions.
Once take a 0-1 lead into half time in their away match in Bolivia (Gualberto Villarroel San Jose). Dayro Moreno with the goal.
A typical "Golazo" according to colombian media. An ugly goal according to normal people. 1914852296749429118 is not a valid tweet id
I was just about to bitch about to bitch about caldas giving up two leads but Dayro saved their asses once again. Hattrick for the old man. Impressive how good these oldies are, or how poor the level is that they still can have success. But even in the biggest leagues this happens, with Lewandovski in Barca, and I think Inter in italy also have tonnes of oldies.
Yeah, one would like to see some up-and-coming youth in the striker position but if they are good enough then a transfer takes them away. Once running out 2-3 winners gives them 6 points from two away matches. They should be able to beat Union Espaniola and this Bolivian squad in Colombia so that should be good for second place at least, which allows progression into the next round.
ridiculous game honestly, San Jose are crap and the fact that they gave away those 2 goals for no reason is embarrassing but whatever. Grandfather Dayro saved the day despite the fact that he's a drunk you want to hear something funny? people all over the place are bitching asking for Dayro to be called up, even Once's manager mentioned it in a press conference
the amount of goals Once Caldas gave away was embarrassing too. Dayro making crap decisions in the final third, that guy Alejandro Garcia did the same thing and instead tried to dribble through their defenders instead of just passing and costing them the whole play. needless to say I see Once Caldas getting dominated by the first decent team they run into, they are genuinely idiots
Yes it is absurd. But at the same time when you get all these ocasions that fall to you as with Cordoba vs Bolivia and Ecuador or the 10 or something wasted opportunities Duran has had his last 2-3 games in Arabia, then it all boils down to one single factor. Don't shit your pants. Scoring a tap-in is not about much else. Anyone that does not get nervous can put the ball in an empty net. So maybe they think the old drunk have stronger nerves.
Once Caldas hosting Union Española and beIN Sports switches to commercials in the middle of the match? 17' Palacios with a chipped shot, 1-0.
Easy group. They're qualified to the next round with the win. Could be an enjoyable game against Flu in Brazil since they can afford to lose it. Better to win the group though.
Yeah, Union wasn't a hard challenge, but Once were pretty inefficient offensively. Over 20 shots towards goal but only 5 or 6 on target. Moreno, for once, was misfiring on most of his attempts.
If Colombians were even close to being efficient with chances we would have multiple Copa Americas, Libertadores, and World Cup Semi-Final by now. But hey, there's always hope for the future.
After going 2-0 over Milonarios last night, Once's defense once again falls apart and allows their opponents to snatch a 2-2 draw at the end. The defender Malagon had a good offensive match with a goal and an assist on the second one.
Fluminense beat Union 2-0 yesterday. Once have 2nd place locked up so tonight's match against CD Gualberto Villarroel Deportivo San José is for the subs to get some action.
Once beat CD Gualberto Villarroel Deportivo San José 2-1 last night to take the top spot in Group F. I hadn't realized that Fluminense lost to that San Jose club in Week 4. Anyway, both go through to the next round and their final round match in Brazil just determines who finishes first.
