V. interesting interview with his Royness in The Observer http://www.observer.co.uk/osm/story/0,6903,782806,00.html And his quote to end the article? "Fu ck him, fu cking tosser." About McCarthy, of course.
There was something to like about Keane's hyperintensity. But it's gotten to the point where he's hurting his teams. At this point, one must doubt whether he will go down in history as a great professional.
Without a doubt. All his antics will overshadow his talent and accomplishments in his career. It's getting old and even embarrassing now.
News today that old Whiskey Cheeks is sending Big Bad Roy for his operation, which will put him out for three months. In no way does this coincide perfectly with the release of his book, and should not be seen as freeing Keane up to promote said tome. Having said that, I can think of very few places where he could sign his book in relative safety. He might be spending a lot of time in the bookshops around Mayfield over the next 3 months.......
Rumor has it that Keane is working on a new book. Possible titles include: - How to lose friends and have everyone hate you. - How to be a complete nutcase and still earn ninety grand a week. -I'm not bitter - but anyone who crosses me can rot in hell. - Jason - I hit him like a jugernaught. - Romeo and Ruud Guillit.
Or "My only crime is honestly" featuring secret information on how Staunton, McCarthy, Quinn, Kelly and McAteers are all praticing nazis trying to take over the world.
Ah, good, we are getting close to scraping the bottom of the barrel at last. Will someone reach it so that we can get on with our lives?
I agree. He has had a great career, but he will be remembered for his antics over the past few months. I am loathe to mention the two in the same breath, but it's a bit like Maradona who is in danger of being remembered as a fat, insane dope-head.
I think Roy Keane is actually starting to suffer some sort of mental illness. The perfectionism that he places upon himself and those around him seems to taking it's toll, and triggering his fits of rage. As for the McAteer incident, Roy was a prat and should have been sent off, but McAteer should not have been on the pitch as that snidy little sh_tbag was kicking Man Utd players a lot of times and deliberately winding Keane up.
But if Keane wants to be remembered as a great player, surely he should rise above that kind of baiting and give his answer by driving his team on to the win? McAteer is a wind-up merchant, but he'll do whatever it takes to get Keane to lose his rag and get himself sent off. Just like Keane would.
Unfortunately, winding people up is not against the rules. And reacting to people winding you up is pure folly - at least in Keane's case
