http://www.dcunited.com/press-release/dc-united-names-curt-onalfo-head-coach I think its fair to him that he gets at least two years minimum as do most coaches that coach DCU.
As I said in the other thread, now that he is coach, he has my full support. However, let's not start making excuses for him already either. If coaches don't matter, then the team should have just gone ahead and hired me a long time ago. Not only does coaching matter though, but they matter even MORE in a league in which the margins of talent in the league from top to bottom between teams are as thin as they are in MLS. So whether or not he is on the field to score or stop goals, he will have a huge hand in determining the overall amount of times the ball ends up in our net or the opposition's.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz seems like a slightly worse version of what united just had. i guess dcu needed some strange even if it wasn't that attractive
I'll reserve judgement until I see his lineups and substitution patterns. If he subs someone out with 2 minutes left in the first half all bets are off.
- 4-4-2 - zonal defensive responsibility (will be interesting for guys like Gomez) - attack down the wings What do others see?
I don't see extensive changes happening until a) DCU also gets rid of at least Kevin Payne and b) MLS radically changes its structure so that all the teams don't ultimately end up at the same level of mediocre.
Best of Luck Coach Onalfo! I will see you in KC at the season opener! (As long as I adjust for the time change, unlike in LA!)
I think Onalfo will do well at United. Especially if they can get rid of some overpriced, slow/old, players. We really don't need multiple guys on the pitch that can't go the full 90.
I am not excited by this pick at all but He's the new head coach and I will blindly support him for the season (unless it's an unmitigated disaster like jersey's last season). We're all part of Curt's army.
