I saw the thread title and thought it was a prank. The Payne Shuffle continues.

    Holy shit.

Well, no one can complain that the F.O. didn't act *here*.

Awful job for Ben though, because the truth is that I don't think this roster *can* get results.

    Wow.

I think Ben is just a placeholder for the remainder of the season...he'll probably go the Richie route and go back to being an assistant once a new head coach is in place. Speaking of Richie, I wonder if he'd be interested...

Not me. Ben's going to get tarred with the same brush, and it's Kasper and Payne who needed to go. Nice to see Payne hasn't lost any of his legendary hubris:

The first priority in appointing an interim coach was ensuring that he would understand the passion, pride and commitment expected from every player who wears a D.C. United uniform,” said Payne.

Well, we've never seen a mid-season firing before in the history of D.C. United. Interesting.

As sucky as our season was, I think this was too soon. (and maybe not the right person was fired) There were countless injuries and this was still his first season taking over a team that stunk. I feel bad for Onalfo. But in today's "now" society there is no patience for building a team. I can remember listening to a coach along time ago saying it would take 3 years to build the team he wanted with the players he wanted and to have patience. Those days are gone my friends.......
p.s. Who would dare start a "Fire Bennie!" thread?

No, no, we're not desperate here.

Personally, I think it is a pretty stupid move. I don't think Ben will be a bad coach but I think it's a very bad idea to put a brand new coach in charge of a sinking team.

Doubt it. From where I sat, it looked like they didn't really take Richie seriously during the previous head coaching search. Now he's an assistant on an increasingly stacked roster. If RBNY were to, gulp, win MLS Cup this year, maybe he'd come.

I have to say this actually shocks me.

But we did just hear the infamous vote of confidence about Onalfo from Payne, via Goff - so in that way, I should not be too shocked.

My biggest concern: what will the pitchfork-weilding DCUnited forum folks do with this info, they demanded someone be scapegoated, now they get their wish - what will be their next wish (they will never be actually satisfied, imo).

    Interesting.

    good luck, Benny old boy!

I disagree. If there is one person that wouldn't get painted with the SuckBrush - it would be Bennie.

YMMV, and I won't hold it against you. ;)

And I agree that Kasper and Payne need to go, but I don't think that happens overnight.

"This was a difficult and painful decision ..." - Payne's mouth.

"But not nearly as difficult or painful as doing the right thing and holding myself and Dave accountable .... Daddy's gotta take care of himself, you know?" Payne's brain.

Was that an MLS coach? Because I don't think it's true in MLS. (didn't we just see this discussion here recently?)

Forgot to include my biggest WTF question.....

WTF is Chad Ashton doing back as an asst coach?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Why not just fire Kelderman, I do not get it...... something fishy is going on.....

With this and the Maessner "resignation," it's obvious to me that Ashton has joined Payne and Kaspar as the Axis of Evil.
