The Bulls have to find their shooting boots or this is going to be a long week. At least defensive reinforcements may soon be ready. LOOK WHO MIGHT BE READY Lawrence, Zubar could factor in vs. SJ
As long as Jesse doesn't rush any of these guys, hopefully they are available to go. Last thing we need is another set back injury. Almost want to hold them both out until Saturday and try some of the kids against San Jose and see what happens
Thanks you Mr. Marsch! Actually excited now. Bang SWP-Davis-Sam Adams-Felipe Lade-taxi-Canuck-zizzo Throwbles
Watched the first 35 minutes neither teams touches were impressive and now I wake up to another 2-0 loss!! Zubar/Kamar and Ouimette are not getting it doone at the back. How did Robles look?
Zubar did not dress. Jesse went with Kemar and Ouimette at CB with Carroll on the bench. In my opinion, going with a "non-CB" in Kemar costs them both goals as it did last week with Duvall. For most of the game, Kemar played well, but on the two goals, he did not make plays that a typical CB would make. On the first one, SJ played a diagonal ball to the far post that I thought he should have won and headed out. He did not and SJ was able to corral and score on a deflected shot. On the second goal, Kemar got caught day dreaming on a crossed ball in the box and Wondo was allowed to waltz in unmarked and head one past Robles. The kid plays his heart out, but he's not a CB. Robles looked good. Not much he could do on either goal.
It is pretty simple though... If you want to win in this game, you have to score goals. And RBNY are NOT doing that right now. Period.
Telling you guys offense is not the big problem here. If you have a shit defense it affects the entire team. Defense is EVERYTHING.
You guys know if the team has left SJ for Denver? There's now a winter storm watch on for the weekend in Denver and I'm wondering if they'll reschedule to keep the Red Bulls from getting stuck here an extra day, but if they're already in Denver it doesn't matter.
I am also more concerned about the defense for two reasons: 1) Nothing is more deflating in soccer than conceding dumb goals. And we have conceded a handful of those already this season. And to boot we score a lot of goals last year winning ball in the middle third and springing a quick mini counter, but our defense is bad now, where we don't win the ball high up the pitch frequently anymore 2) If Jesse really was committed to it we could find 4 productive attackers. Between BWP, Abang, Sacha, Davis, Veron, Etienne, Muyl, Grella, SWP, Allen he should be able to find some goals if he looks hard enough. Between Ouimette, Carroll, Duvall, Zubar, Baah, and DP (off of a torn ACL) I am not sure we have a productive centerback pairing; and that is REALLY bad.
Lets' see......you are making this statement without seeing the same set of CB pairings in 2 straight games because of injury, without seeing DP play 1 minute this season -- after playing well last season, and without seeing Carroll play -- who has helped RBII post 2 straight shutouts. Is this correct? Let's pass judgement until these things take place. In my opinion, the issues seen in the last 3 games with our defense is Jesse's use of outside backs as CB's. You could say that all 5 goals conceded in the last 3 games (1 vs Revs, 2 vs KC and 2 vs SJ) was the direct result of using outside backs as CB's. Both Kemar and Duvall may be very good outside backs, but they do not understand the responsibilities associated with being a CB and it has cost us. Not many teams could withstand the injuries we have occurred at CB and be successful. I think between Baah, Zubar, Ouimette, DP and Carroll, we can find a nice CB pairing to move forward with.
I don't think fans appreciate just how good both Miazga and Perrinelle were at keeping the other team pinned in their own half, and how important it was to Marsch's game plan. They were able to sit at the midfield line, rough up opposing strikers opposing strikers, and send almost any clearance straight back the other way. All without regularly conceding counter attacks. There's a reason Perrinelle almost set the team record for yellow cards despite not being a dirty player, most of them were "professional fouls". Even with healthy Zubar is not nearly as good at this style of play, and while Baah is clearly a great athlete I'm not sure we've seen him replicate this style either.
Even Ouimette, who is an actual CB, has been hot garbage this season. You make it sound like Marsch has much of a choice though. The only other CB available is a guy who hasn't played a professional minute of soccer in his life. In hindsight its easy to point to Duvall's poor play, but going into the game I can't put blame on that decision.
The whole point of the phrase "i am not sure" is saying that I am not certain. They could possibly turn out fine, but I have no idea if that will be the case. I do agree that the outside back as centerback experience has caused some issues, but we have more question marks back there than answers
9AM Update: Rapids working hard to ensure #COLvNY goes ahead as planned at 7pm. We hope to play but, obviously, this depends on the weather between now and kick-off.

NWS seems to be backing off the snowmaggedon forecasts in their most recent updates. Looks like from 3-5 we may get more rain than snow. I'm thinking they at least keep it scheduled up until close to kickoff now.
#Rapids96 stadium staff have cleared field. Still hopeful of playing #COLvNY as scheduled at 7pm. https://t.co/X7BCYOZAWA Update: 3.30pm— Colorado Rapids (@ColoradoRapids) April 16, 2016
Secondhand from a contact in the Rapids FO: "Unless the refs call it, the game is a go. League and teams ready to play."
