Snip: Castro has already worked out for FC Barcelona and the Dutch club Vitesse, and has traveled a lot with the U.S. U-17 National Team. All in all, playing professional soccer appears to be a relative lock for Castro.http://www2.tbo.com/news/prep-sport...ese-players-soccer-is-the-path-to--ar-455374/ He's a '96 defender from Florida with YNT experience: http://www.ussoccer.com/news/u-14-n...jara-for-lone-international-trip-of-2010.aspx
Omar Castro now plays for Eintracht Braunschweig's reserves (I suppose he's the same guy, since he's from Florida too and born 1996)

There's some interesting stuff in that article. For example: Under Castro’s current agreement with Eintracht Braunschweig, once he turns 18 and is eligible to play for the Division I team, a donation of 25,000 euros (about $30,000) will be made to the Lancers’ program for the first game he starts and after every 10 starts after the initial start. The deal also allows the Lancer’s to send two Plant City players, with all expenses paid, to Germany once a year for training and eligibility to be signed, if they demonstrate a high enough quality of play.He has had an agent for a while now: When he was 16, he was already represented by a professional agency — ExtraTime Football Consultants, based in Barcelona, Spain. Also, his coach is his legal guardian. And: Castro received a love of soccer from his father, Jesus. All of Castro’s brothers played, and he has a cousin who plays for the Indios, a professional team in the Mexican League.I don't believe Indios exists anymore, so... not sure who this cousin is, where he's playing, if he's a Yank, if we already know about him, etc.
Copied from the Eintracht Braunschweig thread on the Germany board : The post is about Castro of course
He's on a US U18 roster for a tournament on the Canary Islands, listed as at Eintracht Braunschweig. http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/club-soccer-articles/us-u18-mnt-roster-for-tourney-in-spain_aid32447
Next week Castro will be eligible for Eintracht Braunschweig II for the first time (due to turning 18 one day before the next Regionalliga game). Not sure if he will make the squad right away, but he has been training with the team for months already, so it's possible.
Although he is part of the reserve squad, he has been sent down to the U-19 for now and will play for them again this weekend.
Started for the U-19 against Oldenburg in a 4-1 away, was subbed out after 60 minutes. He didn't score, other than that I can't say much since I only saw the basic stats for the game.
Played 60 minutes again for the U19 in a 6-0 win over Ahlerstedt-Ottendorf/Heeslingen (it's just one team, I swear!). Again not one of the scorers, basically see last week's post.
Played 90 minutes for the U19 in a 2-0 win at Weyhe. With 8 games to go, Eintracht is on track to be promoted back into the U19 Bundesliga. 1. Eintracht 18 68:19 46 --------------------------- 2. Meppen 18 50:21 38 --------------------------- 3. Norderstedt 18 51:27 36 1st is promoted directly, 2nd goes into a play-off.
Castro played the first half for Eintracht's "development team" yesterday, which is a mixed team of U23, U19 and U17 players coached by the first team staff that plays semi-regular friendlies. They lost 1-2 against FT Braunschweig. No mention of Castro in the match report.
No U-19 game last week, this week Castro was an unused sub in the team's first loss of the season at Blumenthal.
According to a match report from today, Castro had "muscular problems" before the game and therfore stayed on the bench.
On friday (for me yesterday, for some of you still today I guess ) Castro was on the bench of the reserve team for the first time, for the 1-1 draw in a Reionalliga game at Goslar. He stayed on the bench for the entire game, though.
And on saturday he played 90 minutes for the U-19 in a 7-1 win over Kickers Emden. Castro scored the 3-0 after 35 minutes.
Played 90 minutes in a 6-0 away win for the U19 at second placed SV Meppen. With 4 games to go and a 10 point lead (plus a 34 goals lead in GD) over Meppen, Bundesliga promotion is all but secured.
Castro was on the bench again for the U23/reserve side in a 3-1 win against Rehden, as last time he didn't see the field, though.
Played his usual (almost) 60 minutes for the U19 in a 8-0 win over Condor Hamburg - the U19 is promoted back into the Bundesliga after a few seasons absence
Castro made his debut for the reserve side on sunday, came in in the 90th minute in a 0-1 loss at Eichede. The game was meaningless for both teams.
