    Hey Guys,
Any word on who Portugal is sending to the Olympics that will be over the age limit? Each team are allowed 3 players over the 23 year old age limit. It would be nice to see Portugal send Figo, Couto, and Rui Costa for one last chance together but I doubt that will happen since Rui Costa has already announced his retirement.

Any word on who they will be sending?

I dont know, but i would love to see João Pinto playing with Figo and Rui Costa in the olympics, 3 of the greatest ever together for the last time, but i think this isn´t going to happen...

why would Baia be going, isn't Morreira the man guy in goal for the under-21 and under-23 olympic squad?

I never heard the coach saying anything like that.......

Moreira deserves the pick and I doubt that anyone would be stupid enough to create another "soap-opera" situation and divide the team once more.

    My guesses:

    C. Ronaldo to pair with Carlitos or Joao Pereira
Tiago to pair with either R. Meireles or C. Martins

and only one older player depending on which position needs reinforcement at the time due to so many factors that noone can predict at this time.

Bringing on anyone just because they are good will not help the team work with cohesion, team spirit and tactical discipline. Greece has just proved that you can achieve so much with less individual talent. Names don't mean much if they don't fit in the collective effort.

Ronaldo and Tiago are under 23! So what you're saying makes no sense. I'll go find you what Ramos said... He said himself that Baia was going to be one of them...

do to the schedule of the Olympics Porto wants to re-schedule the European Supercup to avoid interfere with each other

there used to be a link from O Jogo's website...but it doesn't work anymore. but he'll be there you'll see.

Nop, Baía isn´t going thats for sure, this would make no sense at all, having Moreira and calling Baía wasting 1 of the 3 spots for players with more than 23 years, i believe this 3 positions will be ocupied by midfielders and attacking midifielders, or it could happen we aren´t going to call any players above 23 simply because we don´t need them, and the players that could be usefull are unavailable.

I know better than anyone how old Tiago and CR are. That is why my next paragraph starts with the possibility of calling only one older player.

There is no obligation to take and over-23 players with the team. Jose Romão (that is the coaches name) has a 30-player list including some of the names being mentioned. It is possible though, that some of the older players might not want to go or their clubs might pressure them to say no or whatever.

My point is, "if something ain't broke... don't fix it".
1)The ones that achieved qualification get first choice to go. They deserve it.
    2) It's not easy for a player, however good he is, to fit into a scheme that has worked together for a long time.
    3) It depends what position might need help for a million reasons. If for ex. J. Ribeiro cannot go, there is a problem. Romao has to call someone for the left side of the defense. He has to keep his options open just in case he is in trouble a week before the games.

I hope I make sense now.

Italy just announced their under-21 squad that will be heading to the Olympic games. 3 over-aged players were selected and they are Andrea Pirlo, Ivan Pelizzoli, and Matteo Ferrari.

I am pretty sure Portugal will use their 3 spots, but I still can't see them bring Baia to start ahead of Morreria???

Anyway I'm sure he'd rather play for his country then his club. He seemed to really want to win something for his country.

Does anyone know when they announce the team? It would be awesome to see players like Ronaldo and Tiago playing in Athens. Also, I didnt know they can take players over 23, that seems a little odd but hey, if they take good players, why not!

I cant wait til the Olympics..Im having soccer withdrawl after 3 straight weeks and now nothing. I also cant wait til the world cup qualifiers.

    33 days to Portugal-Iraq!!

    FORÇA PORTUGAL!!!

these are the things I don't like, Benfica hoping that coach Ramos would call Quaresma instead of Carlitos
Ramos should be calling the best 20 portuguese players at the moment, without any favors to any of the clubs
