Anyone know anything? The last tournament was in the US and FSW had live or tape-delayed coverage. The fact that this tournament is in Mexico should mean someone carries it....FSW? Telemundo? Uni/Galavision?
Ditto. I have been looking for coverage too. If someone knows for sure its not available, please let us know. I'd be surprised if it weren't somewhere.
GOD $%^!#&*@ DAMN. OLYMPIC QUALIFYING Olympic qualifying games in the Concacaf region will not be televised in the United States. The games next month in Mexico (eight nations, including the United States, playing for two spots in the Athens Games) will be available only via closed circuit, which is picked up primarily in bars and restaurants that cater to Hispanic patrons. There was no response to e-mail messages sent to Concacaf officials seeking comment. http://www.nytimes.com/2004/01/13/sports/soccer/13SOCC.html FOR NEW YORK USMNT FANS: Does anyone know a Hispanic bar in Queens or elsewhere that will pay for the closed-circuit feed? I did that for several of the away qualifiers during the last USMNT World Cup qualifying cycle...
-- This sucks, but might not be over yet. Hopefully SUM or USSoccer will get rights for pay per view or something. Isn't this how the Honduras WC qualifier started out? (we ended up with that on pay per vew) Keep Hope Alive!
Why can't Fox Sports World show the matches in place of one of the 50 English Premiere League match replays they show?
Maybe we should all write/fax/email/call (or all of the above) FSW and tell them that this is indeed a lucrative tourney. Far more people will watch this tourney than the 50 English Premiere League match replays they show. Somebody needs to post fax/phone numbers and email addy.
because no one except a few hundred BigSoccer posters would actually watch the USA U23s hammer Panama U23s? It might suck but its completly reasonable. Unless one of you have a few million to buy TV right from CONCACAF I wouldn't complain too much. So blame CONCACAF before venting steam in the direction of USA mass media
They're charging millions to get the rights to this tourney? Aside from the US, Mexico and Canda, what other little Latin American countries are going to shell out that kinda dough for the rights? Appearantly closed circuit satellite that will only reach a handful of hispanic patrons in bars was able to come up with the money. You would think at least Galavision would show it.
Well, www.circuitocerrado.com is supposed to have a list of bars & restaurants that will be showing the games, but if you click the link it just shows the schedule of games. Is there anyone who speaks decent Spanish and could call Circuito Cerrado to ask them to post the list?
I called them and they told me they'd put the list up in about ten days as they are adding additional restaurants, bars etc. and the final list is not finished.
I hope so too. I'd love to see those games. I'm actually quite pumped about the qualifying and the Olympics.
Prostar has links to the venues that showed the November CONMEBOL matches here: http://216.3.54.100/elimin/prostar.htm Maybe some of those same places will be showing the Olympic Qualifying matches...
Games Bad news: I talked to the reps from this company at the coaches convention in Charlotte and they indicated they had no plans to buy these games. Good news: I saw a post from a DCU board how the games will be broadcast at Summers. How are they doing that? RGR
Re: Games The owner of Summers plunked down $6,000 for the the closed circuit package for the whole tournament. K
Re: Re: Games Wow, that's quite a commitment. Let's see, there are eight match nights, though the last one, the final, is inconsequential for the Olympics though I'm sure if the US is playing Mexico, people will want to watch. Eight nights into 6,000 is 750. At 10 bucks a head, he needs 75 people a night, on average, to watch. Is that realsistc? It sounds like it but there's no guarantee. Here's hoping he breaks even and that more bar and restaurant owners in the US make the same commitment.
The guy at summer's has been buying soccer packages and not making his money back on SOME of them for years. He's just a cool dude.
Re: Re: Re: Games He's thinks he'll lose some money on the non US games (so drink up!) as he couldn't just get the US ones. People love to dump on Summers (and some reasons are justifiable) but the place is committed to showing soccer. Folks in other parts of the country would kill for what we've got. K
yes, summers definitely rocks...but, they could certainly try and keep the bathrooms a little cleaner and perhaps get a jukebox or play music that people might actually have a chance of liking. those are my suggestions. other than that i thank god the place exists
