I thought I'd rather discuss Olympic soccer among "friends" so I thought I'd post a thread here... Who knew Olympic soccer was so good? It's never really piqued my interest in past years, but I am loving it this year. Also: Olympic Soccer Channel? WHAT? That is pretty much the awesomest thing I've seen in a LONG time. All Olympic soccer all the time. Why don't people tell me these things? Okay, on to actual discussion: Thoughts on the Senegal v. Uruguay game: * Does Uruguay have anybody on the pitch other than Suarez? That's pretty much the only name I'm hearing at all. * Senegal plays pretty dirty, but they play a beautiful game when they're not hacking or diving. * Even a man down, Senegal seems to be owning this game.
Anyone else wonder who approved the design for team Great Brittain's jerseys? Those things are atrocious!
Aren't these U-23 teams with a few seniors added to create some improved quality of play (more accurately, name recognition to draw audience).
Spain against Honduras is having our WCF match from years back. Off the post, directly in the keeper's arms, unfortunate bounces, etc. etc.
Whiniest, most entitled bunch of hacks I've ever seen when things aren't going their way. Seriously, people?
That's pretty much Barcelona to a T. The few times a team actually frustrates them, they start the antics. I'd have a lot more respect for some of these great clubs/countries if they'd just play soccer. Cut the entitled BS and just play.
And MLS. The ball went Espinoza (KC) to Najar (DC) back to Espinoza, who crossed to Bengston (NE) for the goal.
Gotta pay for the Olympics "pound o' flesh". And besides, everyone knows that watching America's current gymnastic sweetheart practice her warms ups is much more interesting than some boring men's soccer game. I mean, they hug and kiss each other after scoring a goal. They must be fairies or sissies or something. I guess if they had played a real man's sport in high school, like football, they wouldn't be prancing around the field in tights like some Belgian fop or something. "I say, can you tell me where the tea and crumpets are?"
all I know is that originally I wasn't too excited to watch the men's tournament as it would likely end in those bastards from espnana winning yet again. Them being knocked out in the group stage?!?! makes things so much better for me, personally. Vaminos Los Catrachos
Amen. This whole tournament so far has been so much better than I expected. The level of play has been much better than I thought from the younger players, there's been great drama and surprises. Overall, I'm thrilled. By the way, if you have cable, check to see if you get the Olympic Soccer Channel. No commercials at all from what I've seen. Pure soccer.
I'm watching the Spain vs. Honduras replay right now. The Honduras GK (Mendoza, I think) needs to get some serious looks from MLS clubs. He's gotta be young too right? I doubt he's one of the Honduran seniors, though I could be wrong. I would love to have him to train with Nicky, and be his eventual replacement.
Also, the soccer Gods are probably still laughing at how many times Spain has rung the upright and crossbar. **** those self entitled *****!
None of the teams are allowed to have their federation logo on the kit. I've also noticed that Mexico isn't wearing their typical Adidas kit. They're wearing an Atletica kit (which I always thought was just a knock off brand. Most knock of FMF kits I find have atletica on them).
Oh, Atletica is legit - they've gone to the World Cup in Atletica gear before (2002): . . . and that goal sealed the deal for the USA. I have (legit) Atletica jerseys for Venezuela and Bolivia as well, and they used to provide the kits for Costa Rica, Guatemala, and El Salvador as well. And our friends across the mountains in Colorado for that matter. But yeah, the missing federation badges is interesting and eye-catching.
He turned 23 ten days ago. Right before he left for the London Olympics his career was in limbo since his team was "relegated" and he had a lot of suitors from abroad, but at last he only managed to sign for C.D. Marathon, before the games began, to a 3 year contract.
