According to MLS Confidential (sorry I can't provide a link), Ben Olsen was sent home due to reinjury of his surgically repaired right ankle... Ben will see team doctors when he gets back from Jamaica... Bad news potentially.. Now we know why Barclay was traded for....
for all that he has gone through... i hope he is alright! he deserves to be healthy... < just not in the center of midfield for the national team >
So I'd like some clarification Chris or anyone else: Is Ben with the team in Jamaica? If so that would make the injury not that bad. Did Ben go to DC while United went to Florida? that might mean that the injury is bad. BTW I think Barclay was traded for because Hudson likes him and we are way thin on the flanks injury or no..
According to Olsen's agent and the team, Olsen is fine. He's just taking a week off after being with the national team for several weeks.
Yeah, well, that does a whole lot of good for the wall I just punched in horror and frustration. Why didn't you tell us that sooner!
I totally agree! I nearly put an acupuncture needle through a patient's lungs after reading that! I think Cweed and Goff are in league and they are just practicing for April Fool's
still wonder why he is heading home for a break... how productive is he going to be this season for us? Is Barclay expected to be a quick sub for Olsen when he needs a break?
I hope the injury rumor is false and the PR about a week's rest is true. I have to confess that I was worried about the ankle when he went to the ground after the hard foul from behind v. Argentina, esp. when he was subbed out. If the ankle is fine, does his "vacation" indicate an end to his international career? In the pre-game, Arena's taped comments indicated that Olsen would no longer be considered as a winger for USMNT. In other words, if Olsen was to be part of the national squad, it would be in the center. Given that he left the match so early and left for vacation soon after, does this mean that the experiment did not work out and that he is no longer being considered at all? Hope not.
I have a feeling that the truth is somewhere in between"vacation" and "devastating reinjury". I will be very pleased if Benny is on the field at the end of the season. John
Normally I wouldn't post this much text from another source, but I can't link to it since it's an e-mail newsletter. Those of you who are interested should go to SoccerAmerica.com and sign up, you may be able to get it without a subscriiption. Here's some excerpts from the report in MLS Confidential: I know Steve Goff is a very reliable source, but if this report is correct, it would indicate the team has had some concerns about Ben's recovery for a while. Several of us wondered why the team acquired Barclay and now we have a better idea about why it was done.
Skip, you should know better than to put pointy needles into someone's body while surfing United threads on BS. Thank heavens you didn't come across a misplaced Ricketts for the Nats thread or an update on the Cart*@#$% -- there's no telling what could have happened to the patient.
