The oldest and most famous competions in football? For the oldest it would be the FA Cup. And for the most famous it would be the FA Cup or the World Cup. If its domestic level it would be the FA cup. If for all sports it would still be the FA cup thats the oldest. But there is a Canadian Cup that may be older though, i dont know. As for the most famous its the same as before. Does anyone disagree?
Soccerscout should be around here soon saying that some Brazilian competition is actually this or that...or how if Brazilian teams were allowed to play in the FA Cup, they would always win.

The FA cup started in 1871-72 season. As for the actual FA cup trophy there have been four different trophies used. The orginal was stolen out of a shop window in Birimgham while on display. Villa were fined £25.
Ice hockey is awful but normal hockey is great. Ive been to ice hockey matchs and they are completely boring. All the players do is start punching each other then start fighting. I dont wanna watch fighting now. Age-old.
I suppose it depends what you mean by International, doesn't it. England, Ireland, Scotland & Wales are seperate soccer 'nations' in that they have seperate national teams. The British Championship, later known as the Home Championships, started in 1883.
True. But the title of the thread was oldest and most famous and the first post mentioned oldest and most famous football competition - it didn't say whether they were still being contested or not.
The World Cup has to be more famous than the FA Cup. Who dosen't know about the world Cup? Nobody, that's who! There must be milions of folk who've never heard of the FA Cup. Especially when you take non-football fans into account.
