feckin hell - great photo...is there any more where that came from? that's mickey walsh - who actually scored in that game (ie. if the photo is from the home game v. Russia in 1984, qualifier for the 86 world cup) i remember the goal and i remember even more clearly the celebration - sliding on his knees and gouging up two huge divots the traces of which still remain in front of the (former) south terrace great jerseys too. as the guy says in "the van" - "I love Ireland!"
Oh yeah, I remember that one. I think it was replayed about a thousand times. Strangely enough, Mickey never played well after that celebration.
Ah great memories. I was at that match too. mickey walsh once won the goal of the season on match of the day. i was just reading an article in the irish ind over the weekend about the last time ireland played albania in dublin i think it was 1992 or so. they named the irish team that played that day and i couldn't help but think what a lucky bs'tard jack charlton was to have such a great set of players. i think the team was. Bonner; Irwin, McGrath, O'Leary, Staunton; Houghton, Keane, Townsend (capt.), Sheedy; Quinn, Aldridge we won 2-0 with goals from aldridge and McGrath I mean what a team..compare that to what Kerr is working with..They were all top class players. Has there ever been a better Ireland line-up.
