I remember Dr. Katz. It didn't consistently make me laugh, but it was pretty funny at times. The show I miss the most is "Strangers With Candy". That show was one of the funniest I've seen in a while.
It was crap for the most part, but Strip Mall had it's moments. The two young guys making porno videos were hilarious. It wasn't a Comedy Central original, but I was glad they were showing League of Gentlemen for awhile. That made the occasional obscure reference in FourFourTwo and When Saturday Comes a lot less obscure. Of course, with the exception of the theme music, the show wasn't that good, either.
TV Funhouse...especially the Vegas episode with Robert Goulet and Triumph the Insult-Comic Dog. I think there were only a few episodes made a couple of years ago, but it was hysterically juvenile.
Apparently, Stephen Colbert from SWC and Jon Stewart have a show in development for one of the major networks. That should be interesting. No, Jon isn't leaving The Daily Show for it. Later, COZ
Anyone remember Vacant Lot or Exit 57? That was back a bit... I didn't like Strip Mall, although Barry (Chris Wylde) hosted a TV show on my campus while I was in college. I ran camera for it a couple of times. I miss Viva Variety and Dr. Katz the most. RS
I miss the really old shows. Alan Havey and the Tommy Sledge fellow. Then again, I was drinking very heavily back then.
I have most of the TV Funhouse shows on tape, but I neglected to make tapes of Strangers w/ Candy and it's no longer on. I really hope to see more shows like these - it seems weird that they didn't buy more episodes as it is...Anyone have any info on why each show ended so abruptly? they were super popular and much funnier than the Daily Show, right?
I don't know if anyone can verify this but "Home Movies" on the Cartoon Network has the same type of animation and dialogue as Dr. Katz. It's probably the same people and it's hilarious.
I just watched my tapes of Kids in the Hall and it is very inconsistant. Some sketches are very funny, but some are god-awful, almost unwatchable.
Pretty good assestment. I don't know if you recorded it from Comedy Central, but there is some language Comedy Central cut out on some skits. There's probably whole skits cut too.
Beat me to it.Great show. "Ass pennies?" That big intense guy from the show is currently in a Domino Pizza ad. And re Dr Katz,Im pretty sure the son from that show is the lead voice in the "Home Movies" show.
It was actually on MTV, but did anyone else think "Sifl and Olly" was one of the funniest things ever on TV?
I loved The State which was also on MTV. Some of those folks are on Comedy Central's Reno 911. My favorite old CC show was Short Attention Span Theater. I also like The Vacant Lot, Kids in the Hall, Viva Variety.
