I am quite positive there is a "Hellas" forum for you to spew this dredge.

And as for the Olympics good luck getting out of debt...

As for your comments on the EURO, not true. First of all tickets were sold by UEFA and the participating Football federations. So if you had problems with ticketing call the Greek Football Federation.

By the way I was fortunate enough to see 5 drunk Greek fans get the ******** beat out of them by the Portuguese police for being violent. This in Porto BEFORE the opening game. Way to go......

That's hilarious. The IOC has already urged China to get things done early to avoid all the problems Greece had. Greece did a piss poor job running the Olympics..everyone knows that.

Portugal ran Euro 2004 on a budget of 550 million Euros. That's 10 stadiums and only 1/4 of that was paid for by the feds.

    Greece ran a debt of:

Athens Olympics cost may top $14.6 billion
    Posted: Thursday November 18, 2004 11:10PM; Updated: Thursday November 18, 2004 11:12PM

ATHENS, Greece (AP) -- The total cost of the Athens Olympics may exceed $14.6 billion, according to Greece's 2005 budget submitted to parliament Thursday.

The budget presented by Finance Minister Giorgos Alogoskoufis gives the clearest picture yet of what the government may have to pay for the Olympics. It shows the existing price tag of $11.6 billion might rise by another $3 billion.

Extra costs include infrastructure projects -- including a metro extension to the airport -- and other indirect public sector expenditures not included in the Olympic budget.

The previous socialist government, which lost to the conservatives in the March elections, had placed the cost of the Aug. 13-29 Olympics and Paralympics that followed in September at $5.9 billion.

The largest debt incurred doesn't necessarily constitute a successful Olympics. Try reading Economics 101. ;)

Both UEFA and FIFA hailed the EURO2004 tournament, which was staged by Portugal, as a unequivocal success, and deemed it as the benchmark for all other tournaments. By the way...Portugal looks set on qualifying for the WC in Germany...how are the greeks doing?

Really? Everyone? I don't know what history books your reading...but they must all be written by greeks.

Portugal was home to the best explorers of all-time [Vasco da Gama, Ferdinand Magellan, Pedro Alvarez Cabral, Bartolemeu Dias, Real Cortez, Christopher Columbus {some historians believe he may have been Portuguese as well}. So you should ask yourself whether the piece of rock you are sitting on was discovered by a Portuguese navigator. Also, It is probably one of the smallest nations to ever have an empire. For 500 years, Portugal had a foothold in almost every continent on Earth [South America, North America, Africa, India, Asia, Indonesia]. As for spreading culture...no other country in the world was able to spread their language and culture so quickly to every corner of the world than Portugal. Portuguese is the 5th most spoken language in the world, and it's culture can be found in Brazil, Angola and Mozambique (Africa), Goa (India), Macao (China), Timor (Indonesia), not to mention the numerous islands they the navigators discovered and the emigrated populations in the rest of the known world (France, Canada, U.S., etc). Not bad for a miniscule country with a miniscule population.

This guy just wants to stir sh!t up. Well, I say let them have the satisfaction of winning the Euro 04. Congratulations to Greece. They played a bland type of football, lulled everyone to sleep, and scored one goal a game playing a wonderfully defensive brand of football. It was so bad that UEFA got worried that other nations would try to copycat the Greek way of success. Well, we can all see that the world has come to know how Greece plays their football. Thankfully, the Ukraine, Turkey and Albania (!) have done their homework...

I can sleep well knowing that Portugal played (and continues to play) an exciting brand of football, full of pace, skill and magistry. We have great young players (CR, Quaresma, etc.), great middle-aged players (Maniche, Deco, etc.), and great older players (Figo, Costa, etc.). We have a great league in which 7 teams are within 4 points of 1st place. Our club teams have won a total of 4 European Cups, 1 UEFA Cup, and 1 Cup Winners' Cup, not to mention a Taca Latina and countless of appearances in the previously mentioned finals as runners'-up. Portugal has hosted a European Cup final in 1967, a Cup Winners' Cup final in 1992, and will host the UEFA Cup final in 2005. Since 1996, our NT has played in all major tournaments save for France 98 and is within reach of going to Germany in 06. We held a successful European competition on a shoestring budget. The 3 major teams in Portugal play in 5-star, state-of-the-art football stadiums. Oh, and there are 3 dailies published in Portugal whose main focus is football.

So to sum it all up: Greece won in 2004, and well done. Enjoy it, because it will be a painfully long time until Greece does anything, and I mean anything, on an international stage. Portugal, in the meantime, has been and is on the right track. I would rather have consistency than be a one-hit wonder...
