I see the USL team has a pretty low budget for branding & marketing, but Flyers is the best of a tragic offering. Typical for small market sports
The best crest is the one for the 46ers, but that's the most confusing name of all. Of what they've come up with, Prodigal needs to go with Flyers.
“Critics are like eunuchs in a harem; they know how it's done, they've seen it done every day, but they're unable to do it themselves.” ― Brendan Behan
I like the 46ers name and crest a bunch (but I have a USMNT jersey with Oklahoma/46 on my Christmas list), so I knew the reference. The Spirit logo works well for me with the negative space thunderbird face and state wings. Lose the outline at the top. Ok with the flycatcher. Kinda hoping the NASL team goes with the thunderbird. (Also, I need to come here more often - completely missed the meeting up at Fox and Hound...)
Just re posting rhat there will be a NASL supporters group meeting next Saturday at 2pm at Skinny Slims.
That was suggested - but they want to wave off any weather-associated things to separate themselves from the Thunder. I do like that name those, in spite of all factors.
I can see why they'd want to do that, but I say they go for state history and one-upsmanship, as the bird actually brings the Thunder. (I also dislike the name of the basketball team, but that's a different story)
46'rs is a much better name for a supporters group than a team name. Credit to the Thunder for getting the best WX related name. Wind is about a inspiring as "The Drizzle". Thunderbirds would a stretch for the Thunder to try and claim copyright for. Flyers doesn't do anything for me, Scissortails as a nickname/secondary name is much better.
Not unlike civic boosters from OKC. The "Wind" logo reminds me of the old NASL California Surf logo...
Or we can take a cue from all of the self-important weather twonks in OKC, and use some of their lingo: The Debris Balls The Multiple Vortices The Power Flashes The Gettners! The Dustnados
You guys are all obviously entitled to your opinion but far be it from me to reject soccer of ANY KIND in Oklahoma City. A blow to soccer at any level is a blow to the city.
For me, one group (the NASL group) appears to be pushing towards a realistic growth model towards a sustainable team, that "might" someday have a shot at MLS, provided their is someone that steps in with a shitpot of money. The other group appears to be pimping the same "we'll be in MLS in 3 seasons" bullshit that the USL and it's forerunners of failure have always been serving up.
And for me, one has a new team with 7,000 STH's and no team with an average attendance <2,000. The OTHER has four teams that average <800 per game.
