Okay - I'm About to Reach My Limit Alright, alright. I've put up with all these Freddie threads. I haven't merged them - I could have. I haven't moved them to the Junior Teams forum, when I probably shoud have. So now, a poll from the most poll-hatingest mod out there. What do you think I should do to Freddy Adu threads on this forum from now on? Feel free to post your opinions on the matter.
Much as I'd love to see them all closed immediately, it's probably just as well to merge them all. Are you sure though? Could turn into a full-time job.
This suggestion probably won't happen now, but if things go the way they've been going, it could become very serious--have a separate board just for Freddie--one of the sub-categories under USA Men, I guess. Not sure exactly about the Freddie volume, but 45 different THREADS have mentioned the word "Freddie" in the last week. That's a lot more volume than some of the regional or national forums, although I have not checked on any recently. This might be a temporary solution for a short time (a year or 2) until he actually becomes part of a pro US or foreign team. Might seem silly, but if less work is what you really value, then you could consider it.
Yes, since there is nothing much different in any of them, and since he is not a "full internatinal," I agree that this should be moved to Junior Teams (where there are another 10,000 Adu threads)
Many, if not most, of the Adu threads I remember in this forum are about the impact that Freddy could have on the future success of the (adult) USMNT team. My vote is to treat Adu like any other relevant topic on this board and merge threads when they are indeed related.
I pretty much ditto what sljohn said. If an Adu thread is relevant to the US full national team, then let it be in here. If it mostly concerns his play for the U-17's or another youth team, then it should be in the youth forum (e.g. for match threads or the like). And if two thread's are too close in content, then merge them.
I didn't answer the poll because my answer wasn't up there. I don't think you should merge all of them, but you should be more aggressive about merging when the new thread doesn't bring up anything new.
he's a junior team player. anything related to his junior team stuff go there. if specualating on his effect on the USMNT senior squad or WC could probably be left here, but id rather see it in junior section cause there are people there who know more about the u-18s, 21s whatever than in here. plus its just good to see other related threads in that forum. i have a feeling itll be easier to sort itself out a little bit more as we get into more newsworthy stuff with the USMNT team. Adu just came at kind of a dead time for the senior team.
What he said. Ultimately, it's your call. If you want to move them, you're going to move them. But if you set such a hard and fast rule, what are you going to do in 12-18 months when people want to legitamately discuss the merits of his promotion to the full NT. For that matter, what are you going to do after the Japan or Mexico friendly if our offense stinks and people want to seriously discuss the merits of giving the kid a call-up? I'm surprised people aren't discussing whose place he should be taking yet. (I suppose he should count as two roster places too, one for each of his Herculean legs.) Let's be honest. At the moment, this kid IS the shooting star of American soccer and, given the dearth of competition until the Gold Cup, he will be what most people here want to talk about. I say leave 'em.
Don't move them to the Junior Forum unless you're going to combine them with all of the existing Freddy threads over there.
Well, it's a close race. I guess they'll just stay put. But, folks, please, follow Buff's adage and think and look before you post.
The facts are that people like talking about the kid - more so than many other threads or headers altogether. If someone is meriting that much talk, it's probably best to open his own thread up. I would maybe open up a sub-thread in the Junior USA teams section, like the Canada thread in CONCACAF.
Close race?? It's a landslide in favor of doing something different. Sixty-four percent want something done, but you split their vote over three options. Ask the question with two options -- should something done or should they be left alone and then use your collective discretion as mods to DECIDE what should be done if that's what people want.
I SUGGEST: 1. move all ADU threads to Junior USA forum 2. create 4 sticky threads: ADU AGE, FUTURE?, CALL UP? MLS OR EUROPE? anything else let it stand.....
I suggest we start a whole new website: http://www.bigfreddie.com. or littlefreddie.com, whichever strikes the moderators of that proposed site as more apt.
