Gregg's comments about wanting wingers making vertical runs suggest he has a role in mind for Morris.
Maybe but that’s also what Pulisic brings and when we don’t play a false 9 they can bring that too. I don’t see Morris benching Pulisic or Reyna and if Musah is a CM it likely won’t cause him to be sat to push Reyna in. Morris will likely be a bench option or used as a 9.
We're going to have windows with 3 and 4 games in short times periods. We haven't had a Best XI ever anyway, due to injury, but factor in the short rest in an international window and I'll be glad to quality, proven depth.
Sure, but playing KDLF plus implicitly bemoaning Reyna's lack of vertical runs suggests he wants (or wanted) two vertical wingers. Obviously all sorts of ways you could set this up -- Reyna as the false 9, Reyna as the free 8, etc. -- but I'm just saying, don't be shocked by some sort experiment with Pulisic/Morris raring on the wings.
He may have wanted that with a false 9 it makes sense but unless we are committing to a false 9 then it doesn’t matter if Gio isn’t a vertical RW. Pulisic and a real 9 will bring that. I wouldn’t be shocked to see that but I wouldn’t bank on it either. I don’t think he knows how he wants to play anymore. I think he’s trying stuff to try it cause he wasted a bunch of time on useless players and our pool changed drastically.
The False 9 was a one off because Berhalter wanted some experience up front. He brings in a striker and the US score 6. Morris can play as a traditional number 9, a false 9, as a winger or number 10. A very useful player to have around.
Morris isn’t capable of playing as a false 9 or 10 and he isn’t a traditional 9 either. He can play wide yes. As a striker he’s vertical. He’s def got value to the 23. I’m not sure he’s in the 11 but he brings a lot of value as an attacking sub or player used for certain match ups.
Even if he isn't starting and subbing around 70' or something, there isn't a single defender who would enjoy trying to stop that train on tired legs.
I really wouldn't hate the Wales alignment if it was Reyna as the false 9. -----Pulisic-------------------Morris----- -------------------Reyna------------------ ---------------------------------------------- -------Musah---------------McKennie-- --------------------Adams----------------- ----------------------------------------------- And then the back 4. It would give one of your most creative possessors a lot of the ball, and if you made it compact and fairly counter-attack oriented (not asking those forwards to press too high) against decent teams, you can exploit Pulisic and Morris's speed.
Morris so far best american player in mls cup. Aidan Morris. Haha. Jordan not showing up as usually in a big game. No touch. No impact so far.
You're making up that's a thing. Opposite is more true. He has a sparkling record of his teams winning big games & usually he's a major reason for it. In this one he was stuck in neutral the first 2/3, along w/ everybody else on Seattle. Big reason was Aidan Morris was bossing the mf, impeding the service for Seattle's front 3. The final 3rd Aidan wore down, allowing Seattle to get more traction, but Jordan was about the only player on Seattle to get out of the neutral they were stuck in. Still, he, & everybody he was feeding could only get close
He was involved in most decent Seattle chances during the second half, including a great header attempt that was probably their single best chance. Not his night or Seattle’s as a whole though.
That's the kind of thing that wins games but you know how fans feel about stuff you can't see in the box score.
Sure doesn't hurt but if they can do enough other stuff that the team wins that's not bad either. Of course it also depends on the competition and we won't see any during training so we have to judge players in very different leagues.
