Probably. It's getting closer all the time. The TAM money has taken MLS up several notches. (According to sportrac.com LA Galaxy and Toronto are outspending Sheffield United and Norwich City).
That's true about the Premier League because there's so much financial investment to stay in the league as soon as they get promoted, and a significant amount beforehand, to get their chunk of the massive tv deals for as many years as possible before they get relegated again. But the other 3 leagues all have 2 or more teams with Transfermarkt values below Atlanta's. So in all likelihood they would not dominate. Some wouldn't even win league. Paderborn doesn't have any starlets that I'm away of, Khiry Shelton is in their 18's.
That's because nobody but Toronto would pay what they pay to Mike and Jozy. What Galaxy and Chicago are wasting money on is a mystery.
And probably to Ante Razov in particular; a prolific left-footed goalscorer who the Sounders had working specifically with Morris for a while: https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2016...nes-scoring-touch-under-mls-legend-ante-razov
That's your scapegoat for this game? The guy made the run in behind and put one on a silver platter for Pulisic. He made a few dangerous crosses the likes of Pulisic and Sargent didn't deal with well, in so far as we got runners into the box. He was decent in his scoring attempts and in possession. Frankly, outside of Long, he was the best outfield player for the U.S., and the top attacker. This is almost as bad as looking at him as the scapegoat in WC qualifying when he played a significant amount in one game and kept hopes alive at Honduras.
The challenge -- and this isn't just true for Morris, it's also true for players like Josef Martinez -- is that MLS salaries for these guys probably place them in a weird spot where the teams who could and would pay them those salaries are pretty uncertain of their value and the teams that might view them as a clearly capable of playing at that level might balk at the salary. I could be wrong on that -- I'm really not sure of the payrolls of say, a lower level Bundesliga team -- but I could see it being a barrier.
I wasn't saying you would necessarily, but if that was the choice, Morris would be my choice. No, I think that's right, Morris's MLS salary probably overshoots the European teams that would otherwise be in for him. The teams that would pay his salary are either looking for sure thing contribution or else phenomenal upside.
I watched their game this weekend and several times they mentioned Sargent's pace. Now while he's not slow and teams are bothered by his speed what would they do with Morris?
I think this speaks to a problem I've always had with that bit of terminology. US sports divides 'pace' into (first step) 'quickness' and (top) 'speed.' I think that's more useful, as Sargent has enough of the second to get the job done, but his specialty is the first. Pulisic, Morris, Weah, Dest, Yedlin, etc all faster on a sprint.
yep... that is all I ask and it is too much for Berhalter. Euro based players arent getting a shot unless they are clear starters.
That's the main issue I have with Gregg, I can tolerate The System, but a refusal to try guys over guys who are clearly not up to it is a shame. Morris deserves credit for working hard and developing something other than straight speed. He has gotten better at a lot of aspects and is now serviceable.
This is a usmnt forum. Why would we care how much money a player makes. If it has any impact on his play it likely to be negative. That Bremen contract helped dramatically improve Seattle's offer. Mendez is already well ahead of where he would be if he signed with the LAG. What is more important is that he has better coaches and more competitive environment.
