I just read the article because I was interested to see the new logo. But seriously Becks...... http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tm...&u=/ap/20040305/ap_en_ot/people_david_beckham "The logo is totally me and something that people can relate to," Beckham said Wednesday. "The image of me taking a free kick is world renowned and instantly recognizable.
i don't think it's him being conceited. just him being himself and not thinking. although i don't think thinking would help out anyway. the guy's an idiot. i saw the interview with him and he was saying "my own logo is something i've always wanted." you know, no matter how bad your delusions of grandeur are, nobody ever says "gee, bob, you know what i could use...yeh that's right, my own f***ing logo, motherf***er." (that was my hardass impression)
"Adidas said the logo was designed to catch the angle of Beckham's body upon impact as he steps into the free kick, familiar to many soccer fans." ...as the angle frequently taken by soccer players stepping into a kick. Twat.
Michael "Air" Jordan had a logo too. Come now, I've not got any vested interest in defending Beckham, but you guys are being a bit harsh... He and Yoko Spice can stay in Spain for all I care anwyays...
I have to agree with Motterman here (did I just say that???). Becks obviously has some reverence for Jordan (hence the number choice at Real), and who amongst us wouldn't agree to a deal worth umpteen millions of dollars, plus we get a cool logo that is all our own? Hey, if Guinness comes to me, and wants to brand their product in America with a logo that looks like a fat guy in a recliner, calling it "Coach's Special Draught", I am all over it in a heart beat!!!!
I was gonna try to defend myself here-especially against Coach's remarks but then I decided-nope he did sound conceited...... Now if I can just find an outlet that is selling stuff with the "world renowned free kickers" logo on it I'd be all set...
yeh, i'm not going to defend myself either because all i said was he's an idiot, which i think everyone will agree, he is
I gotta agree with Coach and Motterman on this one. If a player wasn't well known enough, they wouldn't even have a deal like Beckham does, and if the logo didn't really represent a dominant characteristic of the player, it wouldn't be used. I don't know about the rest of you, but when I see that logo it does remind me of Becks.
All's I could think of when I read the "I've always wanted my own logo" comment was the Simpsons episode where Bart gets a credit card and buys Homer a shirt and Homer goes "It's even got my corporate logo on it!"
I like David Beckham but he and Posh would absolutely love it if he were known throughout the world. He loves the spotlight and doesn't mind paparazzi. I mean, this is a couple that did a tour of Asia and got paid huge bucks for it. He really would love to be Michael Jordan stature type of athlete with all the money that goes along with it. I mean, he and Posh think that they are in fact a celebrity king and queen of England e.g. "Beckingham Palace" and having thrones when they got married. There are star athletes like Becks who love the spotlight and there are those who prefer to keep their profile low. Beckham is the opposite of his buddy Gary Neville who himself is absolutely loaded but tends to keep a low profile (I'm not too sure if the Neville Brothers do commercials or whatever) but I think some players like to keep to themselves. Maybe it's the influence of Posh and her pop star world - to still make the huge bucks, you have to "whore" yourself to keep in the spotlight. Sheesh, look at Janet Jackson . . . if you can't be famous - be infamous - better than nothing I guess if their world. Of course, if someone offered me $$$ to help sell their goods, I'd "whore" myself too - I'd smile and drink my can of Coke . . .
Wasn't the NBA logo based on Jerry West's dribble? At least I recall reading that somewhere a long time ago.
Yep, it sure is. And while the idea of his logo doen't sound bad, the logo looks terrible. Why did the designers decide to have his right arm not connected to the rest of his body is odd. And it's nowhere near as instantly recogonizable as MJ's Jumpman logo, but meh.
We're all just jealous because nobody wants to make a logo for us sitting behind a computer typing away on bigsoccer.com...
who gives a rip?? if someone was to offer that sort of money to you arsenalgirl... i KNOW you would take it lass~~ its called imaging/marketing~ one might call it genius.. phishy~
Yes, and the MLB logo is a silhouette of Harmon Killebrew. The Beckham logo really doesn't remind me of him or anybody in particular. It's nothing close to being as recognizable as the Nike-Jordan logo. Feh.
