Ohio Will Recount Votes After Parties Raise Fee, AP Reports
Nov. 16 (Bloomberg) -- Ohio will recount ballots cast in the Nov. 2 presidential election next month after the Green and Libertarian parties raised more than the $113,600 required to fund the process, the Associated Press reported.

Libertarian Michael Badnarik and the Green Party's David Cobb said they want to be sure all votes were counted properly in President George W. Bush's 136,000-vote victory in the state earlier this month. The recount will be conducted in December, after the votes are certified.

``Our bottom line is to stand up for the integrity of the voting process because the voting process is the heart of the democratic process,'' Blair Bobier, a spokesman for Cobb, told AP.

Ohio's 20 Electoral College votes pushed Bush to victory over Democratic nominee John Kerry. Ohio law says petitioners for a recount must pay $10 per precinct, or a total of $113,600. Badnarik and Cobb said they raised $150,000 in four days, mostly in small donations.

Yeah, the electoral process takes longer than one night out of everyone's lives...they should rename it Election Season, and get away from this we-can-only-spare-one-night-out-of-our-lives-so-get-good-ratings sensibility.

Do any of these two do not support israel? If I knew they did I would have voted for them. Why are most of our troops in the middle east any way? It is because of the US support of the Jews. If it wasn't for that support our WTC would still be standing.

Bush or Kerry it is the same because both these people supported the jews.

Every? it was in two thread. Now back to the question do these 2 guys support israel as well. If they do what good are they? Soldiers will still have to protect the middle east for them.

The LP is in all essence a millitarily isolationist party while pro-free trade with all willing parties. What do you mean by support? Because if it is weapons support, then no, Badnarik would not be in favor. However, if by support, you mean recoginzing Israel and trading other goods and services, then Badnarik is a supporter of Israel.

Why were you too lazy to find out either of their positions pre-nov 2.?

If I had money, I would donate to both parties with a note attached saying "Well done on the recount. This money is because you support democracy."

Don't need significant money to help the GP out, Foosinho. We wouldn't take any more than $1000, anyway.

I saw this bantered about on GP list-servs for a couple of weeks. I didn't think they'd be able to get it done. Color me impressed.

I assume you'll all want a recount in PA as well?? After all, it's a slightly bigger state than Ohio, and (according to CNN.com) Kerry won by a smaller margin than Bush won Ohio by. Also, there were accusations of voter fraud in Philadelphia (which were quickly dismissed by Philadelphia's DA, whose boss is perhaps the most corrupt politician in America).

It warms my heart to see the Green and Libertarian parties working together. :) :) :) Cobb and Badnarik also crossed the police line together at one of the debates in order to serve papers from an Arizona court regarding their exclusion from the Tempe debate.

Greens and Libertarians have more in common than some people realize. This could be the start of a beautiful friendship. Keep it up!
