On that Matan one, my thought was that you are allowed to go shoulder to shoulder and its not the defender's fault if the attacker is Eddie Munster.....
So, what exactly are the rules for physical contact in soccer? I know of the whole 'shoulder to shoulder' is legal, yet still gets called as a foul - so where's the line?
As Mrs KG interprets Law 5 "If, in the hallucination of the referee...". Part of that is if you take a run toward the player, then it's not exactly shoulder to shoulder. Though I've been plowed over with a football block without a call in my career. Part of it is that just being bigger than the other player. and gaining an advantage. by that, is not always a reason to call a foul.
If you’re running side by side and are bumping each other, that’s fine. If a dude runs up and throw an NFL block into the guy, even if’s it’s shoulder to shoulder, that’s a foul. Like KG said, taking a run at someone or excessive force.
Everyone seemed to acknowledge the aggressiveness of the shoulder but lodged no complaints given the game state. In fact, the crew hardly complained all night. I was the only one seemingly chanting for VAR on the first pen. I wonder if the ref had a habit of giving them out for dissent.
I said earlier that I thought the team showed great restraint not to start throwing hands with some of those hacks. The X-Shakira clown would have been at the top of the list with Przybylyklkozzz next. If I was Nancy I would have sent Josh Williams in to police up.the situation. He was never one to back off of a good fight and if he got suspended, well, so what?
It was nice to see an appearance from Jimmy Medranda! Putting in two good crosses as an inverted wide player. I don’t like the idea of putting in Ramirez when you’re up three goals but if Nancy thinks that Chicago being down one man and down 3-0 are going to sit deeper, then Ramirez is your best target man so it makes sense from that aspect. Still would have liked to see a JRR appearance.
I just love this pic. It’s awesome. I wonder if refs in MLS have given cards to the random birds, cats, etc that have found their way onto MLS pitches. Or raccoons in DC. Or even the rabbit that made its way onto the pitch in a match in Edmonton.
