I remembered the case. It was a pretty big deal, especially the sentencing part, back when it happened.
We have Israeli friends who criticize Israel's actions in this matter and for the dame reasons. We crriticize Israel, not Israelis collectively, just as we criticize Hamas but not Palestinian's collectively. It's not that tricky to sort out.
OK, I'm probably going to get some hate for posting this. I quit going to the anti - ICE protests here because they have been largely taken over by Palestinians. Not going to hang out with people who hate me. I understand what that "from the river to the sea" chant means. These people are almost certainly not Hamas members, but they definitely want to see Jews killed. So I'm not seeing a huge distinction on that point. No it's not all Palestinians, but it isn't just Hamas, either. I understand that not all Palestinians are alike, just as not all [whatever] are alike, so spare me the semantic nit picking.
So let me get this straight-- you saw a bunch of people you took for Palestinians and who probably were, and they were spouting hate, and so now you feel justified in assuming that all Palestinians are the same and that any Israelis are justified in killing Palestinians indiscriminately? And my questioning this justification is "semantic nit-picking?" Which of us is it who had multiple family members who survived Auschwitz, again?
There’s a George Orwell quote that is rather relevant on these things. "One sometimes gets the impression that the mere words ‘Socialism’ and ‘Communism’ draw towards them with magnetic force every fruit-juice drinker, nudist, sandal-wearer, sex-maniac, Quaker, ‘Nature Cure’ quack, pacifist, and feminist in England"
Maybe you can also clarify what the Likud charter meant when it said "Between the sea and the Jordan there will only be Israeli sovereignty." When one side says this region should be free, that's a call for genocide of Jews, but when the other side said whatever it said, that was what? I honestly don't know because I'm a dumb American with no skin in the game. My political view on the situation for the last 25 years has been we should walk away from the entire region, stop pouring money into it, do a full economic blockade, and see who's alive and in charge in 100 years. Which is a significant positive evolution from my prior position.
Like a lot of English middle class people, they despise their own class more than the working class or even the rich so I'm not sure he's entirely reliable as a source. The fact is, despite what people claim they represent, the rest of us don't have to agree with them or even believe them.
Sorry, your condescending tone ticked me off. And you might want to go back and read what I wrote. It wasn't meant to be tricky. So if I had written, "Criticize Israel all you want, just apply the same standards to the other side," would that have been politically correct enough? My grandparents emigrated from Poland and Romania. I don't know what happened to their siblings who stayed behind, but I bet it wasn't good. Not that it's a contest. And guess what? I have Palestinian friends, too! Lived right next door to them for years, and we never even thought about killing each other! OK, I'm done. This topic belongs in another thread that I never click on because I don't want to discuss a stupid, never ending war.
Yeah….which is why that set off my bullshit detector. People….if you’re on social media…and someone who is not a reputable account with a large following that you know posts a screenshot of something…your bullshit detector should immediately go off. Particularly when the screenshot cuts off the date it’s posted. And if they are a large account and do this shit…you should consider unfollowing…as they’re rage posters rather than doing so to inform.
Orwell is super interesting on these topics! Have you read Down and out in Paris and London? He decided to live as the lowest of low working class in Paris, then as homeless back in england - living in the so called "spike" Then of course he fought with the marxists in Spain - later coming to detest them
It is either heavily subsidized by employer/gov, or complete bullshit. Even for cheap plans here, often you can get yourself mostly covered by your employer, but it is $200-300/mo for a spouse. It has been a minute since I’ve personally chosen the options, but healthcare insurance is generally $10k/yr/person.

“You cannot fire our firefighters. You cannot fire our trail crews. You have to have selective logging, and water restoration, and healthy forests,” Zink said. “People in Washington, D.C., on the West Coast, East Coast — they don’t understand what that means to us out here.” Actually they do. YOU voted against it!
