edit: I've had several conversations recently where I have expressed my concern that the young LGBT+ generation has no idea of what it was like prior to Lawrence v Texas.

 

My first reaction was to say nothing when he told me. My second reaction is that he is welcome to vote for whoever he feels best represent him. But he needs to be sure about what he is voting for.

The problem with that logic is that that support does absolutely no good if you have no power to affect policy.

That tracks then. Basically his entire life homosexuality has been legal throughout the US, there has been positive representation on TV, in movies and even in music. I mean, he would have been 2 years old or so when Brokeback Mountain and Transamerica were highly visible and getting Oscar nominations.

This is one of the great issues the LGBT+ community faces - because we are born into heterosexual families and because of the school system, it is very difficult to pass our history down to the next generation. As such, victories can often be short-term.
