Tornadoes Just Wrecked Multiple States. Where Are Trump and FEMA? DOGE Cut Several Kentucky Weather Forecasters Just Weeks Before Tornado Came Barreling Through
I see people from Kentucky setting up Amazon wishlists. Trump spread unfounded conspiracies that FEMA 1) ran out of money, 2) Biden diverted funds for undocumented immigrants 3) hurricanes were a government manipulation. I went down a rabbit hole for almost an entire day because of "cloud seeding" No wonder they are skeptical of the US govt coming to assist. Trump also wants to do away with FEMA altogether and are actively working to dismantle the agency. They already blocked states --Arkansas, NC, California and Michigan off hte top of my head --- from accessing pre-approved relief.
It's gonna take YEARS to rebuild this mess. Let's say the federal government shrinks and leaves a bunch of everything to the states. All that means is state taxes go up, right? Ya still gotta pay for all the things.
"Maw, git th' cloves an' th' Bible- thisun's hurt real bad..." <Sally Struthers> It costs nothing to send thoughts and prayers to these unfortunate people <Pat Buttram> But for only $100, yew can guard agin' disease and calamity such as this...
Yeah, but Big State is acceptable to red states because states and Civil War. Big Fed is not, because Civil War and Washington and Black people...
FEMA should take new name, states should bear costs, DHS head Noem says By Reuters This administration states to take the role in preparing for and responding to disasters. The Feds just hand out the funds. I touched on this issue 2 months ago. Pittsburgh ref has a great explainer as well on that page. https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/t...-fuel-boogaloo.2133203/page-261#post-42872030 Imagine a tornado or hurricane covering 3 states and all 3 states are left on their own.
I'm surprised the dog-killer stopped shooting dogs long enough to form an opinion. Q: "Why should we pay for their recovery? We never get hurricanes!" A: "Because they'll return the favor." Getting rid of FEMA...how much of it is it because Elon doesn't want to support "woke" states?
Tornado - Missouri, Illinois, and Kentucky (might have been one a few years ago); Also Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio; Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee - all of the possible. And there are plenty more. Of course, I also happened to (re)read about the 1925 tri-state tornado (which might actually be multiple tornadoes). Hurricane - Easy, a single of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama on landfall. But so many others.
Ya know, the federal government is kind of like an insurance system in a way. Your insurance bill is $X every so often, but you get that big, unexpected thing you gotta pay for it and it's not as bad, because you've put into the collective pool of money. That hospital bill might only be $50/night because you have good insurance. If Texas, Florida or even Michigan is hit by some epic disaster, the federal government (insurance) can step in because their residents are paying for it...along with everyone else in that collective.

You joke, but people live this way in some suburbs of Chicago built in unincorporated areas. No trash no schools no fire no cops no mail delivery to the house. Minimal property taxes of course.
I’m not joking. I was thinking about the likes of Louisiana or Alabama, but I didn’t think local. Anyway, I’m half hoping for a hurricane to hit a really red area of my glorious state to see how they cope without FEMA assistance.
As much as it sucks to have to think like this now…it is the only way the American voters will come to understand the logical conclusion of “conservative” politics and the GOP. We collectively must feel that pain. That there will be collateral damage of people who understood how bad this will be and voted for candidates that tried to avoid this…it is the only path forward. It sucks…but this is our new reality.
